Yeah. That's why I'm kind of leaning towards starting the new Series Read a little later so we could read it together.

Besides, I think one group read for December will be enough. A lot of people are probably going to be really busy.

Okay. I hope that's how the poll works out, but we could always overrule it as mods. lol

I'll be doing this series read in February. :) I would have liked to have done it in December, but I do see the logic in doing it later. I just thought the sooner the better really. Anyone read any of the series before?

Alright, everyone! Today's the day that we start our Series Read for The Selection.

We'll be reading The Selection in February, and the rest of the books until May when The Heir comes out. If you haven't read them, this will be a fun way to read them while waiting for the fourth book!

Feel free to post discussion questions or talk with other group members, but please hide any spoilers as we do have a few members reading with us who have never read the books. We want them to be able to read and have a good time.

I have the paperback bind up of the novellas, but I might get rid of it as soon as the hardcover bind up with The Queen and The Favorite (and the rest of them) is released.

message 27: by Diane (new)

Diane R so I finished The Selection this week and moved on to The Elite immediately after. I don't know if it was just too much typical YA romance for one week or what but... I was one the fence, leaning toward liking the series after I finished The Selection, but by the end of The Elite I am leaning toward hating it. Anyone feel similarly? Is book 2 just not up to snuff? I'm not sure I want to continue with this series right now.. Someone convince me otherwise :)

message 28: by Diane (new)

Diane R I normally enjoy reading a aeries straight through. It typically makes me feel more connected to the characters and the world they live in. I think you're right though - I may be experiencing an overload. These books are so saturated in YA romance and don't have enough action (or mystery or suspense etc) to break it up. Right now I just feel put off from the series and am not sure when I'll want to delve back in. thanks for your input!

I personally liked The Elite better than The Selection, but I read them as they were released. So I waited a year. I'll have to see how I feel once I start to re-read them.

message 30: by Shi'Asia (new)

Shi'Asia (kawaiiemotions) | 21 comments I just finished The Elite and the ending was such a whirlwind! I'm going to read the novellas next. I'm especially curious about Queen Amberly's story considering the king is a jerk!

It seems that lots of people didn't like the second book nearly as much as the first, so it could just be that. I still enjoyed The Elite, but lots of people were frustrated with America.

Sandra (the_librocubicultarist) I'll start reading this book next week :)

message 33: by Erryn_x (new)

Erryn_x | 36 comments I read the first one and really didn't like it.

It's purely because my reader-morals won't let me give up on a series after only one book that I'm reading "The Elite" x

I read the elite straight after I received The Selection (I actually got the Elite and The One prior to getting The Selection), and I didn't like it that much, but I liked it better than The Selection. I loved The One.

It is very predictable. I liked the second and third books more, but they are at least cute and fluffy reads. I know I see a lot of middle school girls reading them now, and they actually use them as a gateway to the better dystopia books.

message 41: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (alexandra14) | 112 comments @danique. I didn't expect to like it too. I have seen awful reviews of this book. That's why I was hesitant to read it, but I'm glad I'm doing it

My mom loves YA too! She read HP way, way before I did, and I finally read them when I was 22. She was so happy. She recently read If I Stay, so I'm trying to get her to read a few more of my books.

I liked how it kind of seemed old fashioned, and as I kept reading the rest of the books, Cass somehow reveals just how archaic the Selection really seems. Kind of weird, but still kind of cool. I don't know... the palace is just a strange place to be. lol

Another book that is set in the future, but seems like it is in the past is The Queen of the Tearling, but it's way more medieval feeling than The Selection.
