message 14: by ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (last edited Nov 24, 2009 05:34PM) (new)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Lynne, this is where you pick a book to read off one of the group member's shelves here on GRs whose birthday is in December. There is a thread divided up by month, with a link to each person's profile (if it's not set to private). You can then search their shelves for a book to read. Doesn't matter if they've read it or not, as long as they have it listed, it's fair game. The Compare Books button is useful if you want to see if they have any books in common with you and perhaps you'll find something off your TBR shelf to read.

You can find the birthday calendar here:

Thanks!

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Your welcome Lynne. Some months are easier than others depending on how many birthday girls we have and how many books are on their shelves. To be added to the list, just post the day and month of your birthday in a seperate birthday thread you'll find here. And bonus: When it's your birthday, you are allowed to pick books off your own shelves here to fill the category for the challenge that month! :)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Well, I'll do my best, but December looks to be a really bad month. Hospital and holiday will take up all my time that I foresee, but I'll try.

3. Geography: Read a book whose author, setting or character is from Ohio.

5. Christmas Theme: Read a book that has a "Christmas" word in its title (mistletoe, christmas, holiday, santa, reindeer, etc) or has a Christmas theme cover.

6. International Children's Day: Read a book that has a prominent child character.

7. May/December Affair: Read a book that features a relationship where there is a considerable "age" difference between the pair.

8. Challenge Holiday Gift: Read a book that you need for another challenge. Be sure to say for which challenge.

9. Explore-a-genre: Read a "category" or "serial" romance. (Ex. Mills & Boon, Harlequin, Candlelight, etc)

10. Reader's Choice or if you joined the Pick-It-Form Me Challenge, your recommended book.

Oh no! All the best Photojim.

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) I really have to read 27 manuscripts [children's books by unpublished authors, the joy:] and all the New Zealand children's & young adults books published in 2009, which I've been putting off!
Consquently, where possible, I'm going with cross-challenge books, quick & easy re-reads - or plain old quick & easy. Taking it easy this month!

1. December: Title starts with 'D': Dragonquest by Anne McCaffrey.

2. December b'day shelves: Poison Study by Maria Synder. From Kristen's shelves.

3. Geography: Ohio: A Date with the Other Side by Erin McCarthy.

4. "Winter" words: The Winter Queen by Amanda McCabe.

5. Christmas theme: A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas.

6. International Children's Day: Mrs. Scrooge by Barbara Bretton.

7. May/December Affair: First and Forever by Katherine Kendall.

8. Challenge Holiday Gift: The Surgeon of Crowthorne A Tale of Murder, Madness and the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester. From 'Ready Your Life' challenge.

9. Explore-a-genre: "Category" romance: The Heart of Christmas A Handful of Gold\The Season for Suitors\This Wicked Gift by Mary Balogh & others.

10. Pick-it-for me: TBD... depends on my mood...
The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale OR
Silk by Alessandro Baricco OR
Soulless by Gail Carriger. Thanks, once again, for the picks Kasia!

* Warning NSSP and possibly TMI post *

My body has betrayed me! But no worries. I'm going in Wed morning in the pre-dawn hours to have a couple feet of colon removed from my body. I'll be in the hospital for up to a week. I'll be off my feet for somewhat longer than that. Since this is the slow time for a photographer, this is the time for me to have this done. Very low mortality with this surgery and I should pull through with flying colors. But with the drugs and sleep times, I don't know how much reading I'll get done. Maybe I'll be awake and hungry for books non-stop. I'll know when I'm living it. Don't worry, I'll be back before you know it.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I'm going to go against my usual post as I go and post the first three books I plan on reading. (because they are all sitting in front of me now)

1. i got a "D" when I read - The Dangerous Protector by Janet Chapman
2. Look what I found on Mel's shelf - You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister
3. Went back to Ohio, but my city was gone - Dogs and Goddesses by Jennifer Crusie, Anne Stuart, and Lani Diane Rich
4. Walking in a Winter Wonderland -
5. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas -
6. Having kids is usually less fun than making them -
7. Cougar or pedophile, it's a thin line -
8. Just what I needed! You shouldn't have! -
9. Really, it's not my Harlequin *whistles innocently* -
10. Look what Amanda picked for me! -

Whew! Fingers-crossed.
Sometimes our bodies just really have to shout 'enough! time out!!!'... until we realise we have to STOP.
I've been off work with bronchitis (a piddly little problem, really) - but it's my first sick leave in 3 years.
