Jess I've been re-reading some of the books in the series, and I have a vague storyline stuck in my head and I can't remember which book it is.

Roarke and Eve fight for a majority of the book because one of his old flames comes and stays in the house. Eve thinks that Roarke is being conned and she keeps trying to tell him and he wants Eve to back off. I believe Summerset came into the picture and he was on Eve's side in this case, which surprised her.

For the life of me I can't remember anything else about the book. Anyone have the foggiest as to which one it is?

First it wasn't a flame but a buddy of Roarke's and the book was Betrayal in Death.

Jess, you might also thinking about Innocent in Death. Enters Magdalena, an old flame of Roarke's that causes real problems for the relationship. She did not live on the premises, however. Summerset was indeed on her side as he remembered her as manipulative and with too much power over Roarke, in fact, more than any other ex-flame, I think. This part of the story is actually a side-line story which adds a lot to the book, though. The mystery line is a series of murders at a private school.

LadyCalico Definitely, Innocent in Death--one of the best in the series. There was an old male friend who turns up in Betrayal in Death after getting paid to betray Roarke, and he, not the preditory Magdelena of "Innocent" is invitied to stay as a houseguest. "Betrayal" was rather sad, and lacks that memorable scene where Eve decks the preditory B****.

message 5: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Yes, in Betrayal in Death, the old friend, Mick is staying in the house. That's the one with the art auction and the serial killer. That's also an excellent book, with some interesting twists and turns.

Jess I borrowed Innocent in Death from my bf's mom and I re-read it. Ahh how great to see the scene where Eve slugged that biatch in the face. loved it.

Thanks for the help :)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments HI,

I'm going to bump this thread up to the top, as it is a good one for anyone who might have a question about a book, or anything series related that another member might be able to help with.

message 8: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) Loved Innocent (one of my favs) for 2 reasons.

1. As everyone else I loved where Eve gets to finally knock the b**ch out, lol!
2. I love the storyline between Eve & Roarke in this book. I know it's not your typical love story but this series is supposed to progress along with their marriage. I really want to see the downs, as well as the ups. It makes them that much sweeter to me and also makes them seem more real as a couple to me.

I totally agree, Alyssa. I enjoyed that sub-plot and punch more than even the mystery, although I love the rest too.

Also Alyssa, Can I have your permission to put this comment under the Innocent in Death Topic under the books heading, or perhaps you can just copy it over there if you would be willing. Maybe more people would like to share their thoughts about the plot. I'll wait for your answer, but am going to add one of my own. There's another observation about the sub-plot that I thought was interesting.

message 10: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) I don't mind copying it myself. I thought about it after I posted, lol.

message 12: by Jess (new)

Jess I've been re-reading this series recently, and there's this one scene that keeps sticking in my mind and I can't remember which book it was from.

Eve was on the phone with Roarke as she was driving home from work, and she gets hit by another car and there's this huge accident. And then there was an adorable scene that follows where Roarke shows up not knowing if she's alive or not.

That's all I can remember, not even the rest of the plot. Anyone have an idea which book this belongs to?

message 13: by LadyCalico (last edited Oct 24, 2010 01:05PM) (new)

LadyCalico I may be wrong since I can't find which book the first scene is in, but there are two similar scenes that you could be describing. There is one you are probably referring to, in which Eve is purposely wrecked by some badguys when her old police car malfunctions and is too slow taking evasive action. Then there is a similar scene in Vengeance in Death where a bomb is planted in Eve's car but it fails to explode until she, while on the phone to Peabody who is with Roarke, is getting out of her car to settle a fight between cabbies at an accident scene and angrily slams her door. The later incident is an exceptionally sweet one where Roarke searches and finds her abusing the EMT's. The crew then visits the recovering concussed Eve at the mansion and end up diving into her bed to grab her breakfast.
I doubt that helps you to find the first scene, but the second one is too adorable to miss. I thought the first scene was from Judgment in Death, which I am currently skimming but cannot find it, so I'm wrong.

message 14: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Jess, It might be Loyalty in Death, the one with Cassandra. I don't have the book, only the mp3 so I can't check. I do remember that scene, though. She knows a car is following her, but she is set up by another car and has to hit vertical and doesn't make it. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I think it's the one with the bomb that goes off... Yeah it's such an awesome scene that I want to re-read it.

I just ordered vengeance in death on my kindle.. I hope I come across the scene. I hate when I get stuff in my head and have a fierce need to re-read.

message 16: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) You can always search the book for certain phrases on your Kindle. That way you can find it quickly without having to wait and find it while reading.

Or you can check this site out...it is a must for In Death lovers like ourselves and it is full of any information you'd ever want to know about the series.

That's the one I'm thinking about, but cannot find it--it is hard to find one specific scene by skimming.

message 19: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Lola,

I did some research using the website link Alyssa refers to in her comment.

The scene I was thinking of was in Promises in Death. A car is following her, and she ends up hitting a van and gets some bruises.

The one I think you're referring to though is in Vengeance in Death. Someone has rigged her car to blow up. She gets out of the car to handle a fight and that's when it blows up and she gets pretty seriously injured. Dallas is screaming for a communicator so she can call Roarke, but he shows up before she can. The MT gives her a shot and Roarke takes her to a health center. The scene starts on page 210 of the paperback version.

message 20: by Jess (new)

Jess I bought Vengeance in Death, that was the scene I was thinking of. Thanks for the help. Right now I'm reading the newest book and it's really good so far.

it will be well worth it. One of my favorites.

message 24: by Karon (new)

Karon (agmommy) | 182 comments I made it to that part this weekend.....how sweet! I love that she's finally moving away from the "all-Eve" lifestyle and thinking of her husband right away. Not that I ever thought that she was selfish that way, but now that she's married, he is a part of her. I love the scene a little bit later where he said they are "finally a unit." That really sums it up!

message 25: by Jess (new)

Jess Just wanted to post up that on Robb's website http://www.jdrobb.com/about/news.html

there is a clip of Roberts talking about the In Death series.

message 26: by Serena (new)

Serena | 8 comments Hello all! I have a question about one of the books too! I can't remember which book it happened in. Of course it was one of few issues between Roarke & Eve. It came to a point in one of the books where Roarke gets a little upset with Eve when she goes completely broke and doesn't use what she considers "his" funds. This is just the gist of this particular argument and I know there is more to it but I can't remember. Do any of you know what book this was in? I can't remember. I guess this happens when you go thru them quickly lol.

Oh and I found this site... don't know if anyone here has mentioned it but it's an "In Death" series wiki :-)

Thanks for that link, Serena...I just had a thorough look through, and listed the ones I haven't read from the series yet...there are 11 of them! :)

message 28: by Serena (new)

Serena | 8 comments Brenda, your welcome :-)...I keep up with the books thru that website as well! I found it to be very resourceful (as far as the series go lol)and it's perfectly detailed with each book without giving too much away.

I don't know if you ever got an answer but it's Strangers in Death :)

message 31: by Serena (new)

Serena | 8 comments No prob Vanessa :-)...Alyssa (Hesperia) Thanks!! I was still going thru the books trying to find which one it came from! You saved me the trouble! lol

message 33: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments Okay I have teo or three general questions, not about any one book. 1) does anyone know how much Eve weighs?? I was reading Promises and Peabody had to carry Eve and it got me wondering. 2) how do you say Moriss' first name? "Li"? That's all I can think of right now but I think I had one more so I will put it on here if I do. Thanks!

message 34: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) Elizabeth wrote: "Okay I have teo or three general questions, not about any one book. 1) does anyone know how much Eve weighs?? I was reading Promises and Peabody had to carry Eve and it got me wondering. 2) how do ..."

According to wikiindeath.com which corroborated what I thought I remembered - Eve weighs 120lbs and is 5'10". However, I think I remember it being said somewhere that she lost a good bit of weight after one of her accidents, but at this moment I can't remember which one.

As far Morris goes, I believe it's pronounced like 'Lee' just spelled differently.

message 35: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments Okay!! And I remembered my other question...dis they mention Eve and Roarkes birthday and did I miss it? Or do they not celebrate them or something? Thanks!

message 36: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) Roarke's birthday is October 6, 2024. However, only Eve's birth year (2028) is listed since her first eight years are so sketchy due to her time with her father.

message 37: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments Woah! Thanks! I think it cool to know how old they are in relationship with me

message 38: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments It's funny about age. Although I'm older, I always feel like I'm the same age as the heroine in the book. When the book describes a character in their 40s or 50s they make them sound so old, and then I realize, hey, that's really rude!!

message 39: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments Same here. i mean, im still a young and whatnot but when i read this book i feel like if i stopped reading it and i was suddenly thirty-something, that would be so normal! you know what i mean?

message 40: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Exactly Elizabeth, that's how I feel too.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Lola4 wrote: "That's the one I'm thinking about, but cannot find it--it is hard to find one specific scene by skimming.

I've got that problem, too. I listened to all the audiobooks, but I've tried to search for scenes in paper copies as well! The funny thing is that while a scene may take 5 minutes on audio, it's only like 1 page long.... So it's hard to find that ONE page!

Elizabeth wrote: "Same here. i mean, im still a young and whatnot but when i read this book i feel like if i stopped reading it and i was suddenly thirty-something, that would be so normal! you know what i mean?"

I'm the same way! I read a lot of young adult fiction, and if it's well-written, I feel 16 or 17 when I read. In this case, I relate more to Peabody (sheltered upbringing) and Mavis (I have a baby) than to Eve (although Eve DOES make me want to work out so I'll be skinny again!)... Peabody is like 25, and Mavis, 29. I'm 27, so I guess there's not too much imagination-stretching going on there...

You know what's funny though? When they talk about how old Roarke is (35), I always think, "No... he can't be THAT old!" But that's only 5 years older than my husband... drrrr...

message 42: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Ok, 35 is not old by my standards; better watch that girl, LOL.

My hubbie's 50 and still sexy to me - love that man!! But if I had to have a fantasy guy, well Roarke is it. The only other one that comes close is Barrons in the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.

message 43: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments No, it's not old. That's my point! My problem is that in my head, I'm still 20. :P

message 44: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 646 comments Sara, I get that!! I always identify with the heroine, and she's never over 35. It's really sad when they mention a person in their 40's as middle aged in a book; I just cringe. But then, I'd like to make it to 2059 even if I would be an old woman. I'd probably still believe I was twenty then too.

message 45: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments Same here! I am like agreeing with everyone so I can't reply to just one of you! Haha. I totally relate more to Eve. I'm kinda introverted so I hate parties, I can get CRAZY when I get mad i hit and kick things, i dont think i will ever find a guy that will understand me so i understands Eve's shock...It's just the only thing is i really like kids.

message 46: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1038 comments Vanessa wrote: "But then, I'd like to make it to 2059 even if I would be an old woman. I'd probably still believe I was twenty then too. "

Ditto! Sometimes I'm like, "Wow... How old will I be then? 76? Holy CRAP...."

message 47: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 582 comments I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!! I think oh how old will I be? Sixty WHAT?? and I feel so depressed that these people get to live around all of that stuff on their young(er) days and I don't :(
