I don't want to give anything away, but I'm not a fan of reincarnation, so I didn't like these as much.

I know what you girls mean. Jes is interesting, so far. I'm curious to see where things go from here.

Could it be her withdrawn, almost dispassionate personality, Carolyn? I think that's part of her keeping her anger in check b/c of the danger of her magic. I did pick that up about her, so far.

I'm really liking Jes. He has a dangerous vibe. But, he's kind of sweet. I picture the guy who plays Merlin on the Merlin show.

I finished Raven Shadow. I reallly like it, although some parts were a little slow. I loved Seraph and
Tier, and their kids. There was much in this story that shows why PB is one of my favorite authors.

The whole family setting out to save their father was great, since everyone seemed to play a pretty pivitol role. Hope the second book is just as good!

My favorite characters were Jes and Tier. Both of their "powers" were very intriguing. I wouldn't mind having Tier's powers. I didn't mind Seraph's coldness; I could understand her emotional detachment because of her magic and because the way everybody but her family treated her.
Can't wait to read the next book!

I think that you don't really get to evaluate what Seraph feels while she's younger. I think she was attracted/drawn to Tier, but also afraid of her power and her duty as a Raven. As an adult, I believe that her actions show her love, even if her words do not. People are so different, expressing themselves in various ways. Some people aren't good with words, but their actions show their heart. I would suggest Adam as an example (at least in the earlier books). Although Adam isn't all gushy with Mercy, I never doubt his love for Mercy. Seraph is not too dissimilar. I think the issue is we expect woman to be more emotional and feeling. It's hard to see a woman who's more like a man in how she acts emotionally (or so traditional roles would suggest). But, I know people like Seraph, and I am a bit like her in that I am not one for emotional outbursts. I like to be self-controlled. I think my family knows how much I love them, because I show it. So, I guess that's what I see in Seraph.

I don't think she was trying to write a romance, so I guess she didn't feel the need to focus on that part.

Book description: Seraph is a Raven mage who left behind her responsibilities for the love of the ex-soldier Tier. But when Tier disappears, Seraph must use her magic-and fulfill her ancestors' oath to protect humanity from destruction.
