The word is ROBOT. Lets get started!

You use the first letter of a book you have read in August (A, an, the.. you can leave out). Or you can use the first letter of the Authors name or Surname.

Good luck everyone!

Naz (nazz) I assume u meant August not April :) Can we use books from the patchwork Challenge?

Lauren Smith Wow, that's an ambitious list Lu! Origin of Species too! Is that for the patchwork challenge? Good luck :)

Lauren Smith Yeah, it is a bit long, and I have varsity classes now, so I may not finish. Maybe I can work my studies in, or include some easy reads.

R - Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett
O - Odds and Gods by Tom Holt
B - The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes
O - Kindred by Octavia Butler
T - The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas

Also: The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

O - Before I fall - Lauren Oliver
B - Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte

T - Tale of two cities - Charles Dickens

Its just a rough list for now. There is no way I'll finish the word with my 10 days of excavation :(

message 10: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Let me know what you think of Patternmaster if you manage to read it Naz. I love Octavia Butler, but I haven't read that one yet.

message 11: by Naz (new)

Naz (nazz) I've been meaning to read her novels for a while but just never got down to it. I started one awhile back and realized it was a sequel and forgot about it for awhile.

Naz (nazz) All done :)

Lauren I liked the Patternmaster but I wish it was more detailed and the ending came too soon for me. Which of Butlers novels is your fav?

message 14: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Well done Naz!

Kindred is my favourite Butler so far. It's got some heavy themes (racism, slavery, rape) but Butler has this talent for telling serious stories in a way that gets you hooked on the story and makes you think but without getting you down (I hate it when books make me feel miserable, even if they're top class). Her Xenogenesis series (starting with Dawn) is also very good, although it gets a little repetitive (similar plot in each book).

I read Parable of the Sower, which was ok. I really want to read Fledgling, which is about young girl who finds out she's a 53-year old vampire. Sounds really interesting.

Lauren Smith Oh man, I don't have nearly enough time to read this month. I don't think I'll finish more than one letter :(

message 16: by Naz (new)

Naz (nazz) Don't worry I'm not going to be reading anything for the rest of the month either :( Its depressing. I think I'll read Dawn for the same name challenge next month though.

message 17: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith You've already finished 5 books though! I've just read one :( I want to read the book you've just started - The End of Mr Y. A friend recently read it and wants to know what I think, but I doubt I'll finish it soon.

I've been wanting to re-read Butler's Dawn too. It's fairly short so maybe I can squeeze it in :)
