Around the World in Books Never-Ending Challenge (Circumnavigators)

i'm going to keep my frequent flyer status and throw in globetrotter as an additional goal - not going to try for the states this year

I'd like to be a circumnavigator and keep reading books from countries I haven't visited yet. I was also trying to do the 50 States challenge last year (2010-2011) so I will continue with that as well. I can't manage to read 130 books in a year. That's a lot. So I'll just continue to participate in the challenge and add to the countries and states I've already "visited."

That's okay, few people do. You can read as many or as few as you like.

Yes. Have a wonderful world tour!

Welcome, Shelly!

Go to this same top and just keep adding your updates in a new comment box on the bottom of the page.
You can count any books you have read since October of last year.
Happy traveling!

I'd missed that we can revisit countries in this one. Gives me a couple books to add that I have read.
I have a better understanding. I like the words your own pace. Thanks for the helpful information.

Absolutely.

I would prefer you had a thread for each, unless you have a way of clearly separating them on one thread.

I am excited to be starting a new Around-the-World year!

I've been absent for the second half of this year and never got very far on my frequent flier mental miles, so now I can
1. start a Circumnavigator Challenge for the countries I've done already
2. start a new FF Challenge for 2013
3. be a rogue traveller and list everyplace and everybook
.........all at once! This is gonna be great.

Thanks, Jen. I'm glad you will be continuing with us next year.

I'll start today too. January is going so fast. I'm excited.
I'm a little confused with all the different names like Trekker, circumnavigator, etc.

Hattie, here is a brief explanation of the different tracks:
Frequent flyer - goal is to work toward reading 80 countries in one year, in any order.
Trekker - goal is to work toward reading 80 countries in one year, in geographical order (countries read must connect or be near each other).
Circumnavigator - goal is to work toward 80 or more countries with no time limits.
Tourist - goal is to work toward 24 countries in one year, in any order
Rogue Traveler - read as many books as you want set anywhere in the world in one year, all books can even be in same country.
Hope this helps.

If you are also participating in this year's annual challenge, any previously unread destinations can be added to both lists. If you read a book from a country you read in the previous year, it will only count toward the current 80 country annual list. (Example: Say the first two books I read are from France and Pakistan. This will be my first book read from Pakistan during either challenge, so I will be able to count it in my current annual list AND my continuation of the list from last year. France, however, is a country of which I read in the 2009/2010 annual list already, so now I will only be able to claim it in my current annual list. It sounds a lot more confusing than it actually is.) You may participate in both challenges simultaneously, but will have to start a thread under each topic.
Books may be of any length and rules for settings are the same as on the Around the World in 80 days annual challenge. Adjust the rules as you see fit..
