P.I. Barrington I could feel the lazer-sharp teeth slitting open my flesh. I saw red...and then black.
P.I. Barrington Great question! House of Scorpio by Pat Wallace and the world there which was divided into regions according to zodiac signs and where they were likely to live is a definite destination for me! The settings were divine, unusual and unique and it was both entertaining and informative--oh, and it was a romance novel as well--back then I read some romance but this is the one for me! By the way, that book is out of print and was only released in paperback in 1975! I bought one of the original copies back in 1975 and read it so many times the cover fell off! I love that book!
P.I. Barrington My beloved sister passed away at the end of March and my entire world just collapsed around me and my family. Only this month have I been able to look at books to read and I stumbled across these two: Prayers of Comfort & Hope by Christine A. Dallman and TD Jakes' Destiny Journal. They're not published this year but I think I need to read them right now. I will be looking for non-fiction regarding ancient Egypt and Biblical civilizations which are always an obsession with me. Thanks so much for asking, I truly appreciate it. I hope I answered what you want to hear and please feel free to ask me another question!
P.I. Barrington I am almost finished writing TBC #2 and then it will go to the publisher and I'm guessing final release or ARC will be available late May. That's because it will need cover art created as well as editing. I know it's a long time but in October my sister was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer so I've been trying to write and deal with that simultaneously. It's just a matter of being able to sit down and write and concentrate during a long segment of time.
You know what? I have an old story (this one was my real baby) called Isadora DayStar which I released with many many MANY errors and that needs desperately to be edited that you might like! PM me if you'd like on that. Isadora is a REALLY dark story but you might enjoy it.
P.I. Barrington For me it's the satisfaction that I am entertaining readers. I'm not trying to make some deep thematic statement on society. I'm just trying to take people on an emotional journey; make them laugh or cry or surprise them in some way they don't expect. I want them to love or even hate my characters--just as long as they feel something. I want to suck them in and make them think they've been somewhere! I write for a wide audience; I don't stay strictly within genre boundaries, never have. If readers tell me they like my work and it affected them in some way--that's the best part.
P.I. Barrington I ALWAYS tell aspiring and even established authors to be your own harshest critic. Don't indulge yourself in thinking you are the next Heather Graham or J.D. Robb just because you've strung 50,000 words together. It sounds harsh to hear but if you want to be the best you have to be honest with yourself and hardest on yourself! If you are then others won't have to be.
P.I. Barrington Right now I'm working on The Brede Chronicles, Book 2. All of WIPs have to take a back seat right now while I finish that. I also have several new ideas for books but that also takes a back seat for the moment. Plus the new ideas are more complicated for me in terms of writing--sounds vague and confusing but believe me when it happens it'll work!
P.I. Barrington You know, it's funny but that question pops up seemingly everywhere writers talk about writing. I was a newspaper journalist and photographer and I did not have time for "inspiration" to strike. I had deadlines and information to get out and learned how to meet those deadlines. Personally, I know that training helped me finish all my novels (excepting this last year) as soon as possible and how to finish a story rather than languishing over it for years or letting it languish. I've said before that while I would love to have a pre-writing ritual but I don't and I can't. I know what I need to do that day or know that I can't do it that day. Unless I'm struck by depression and insecurity I just sit down and write! Inspiration comes from everywhere, including boredom. You have to use everything around you.
P.I. Barrington After a year of depression and doubt that I would ever write again, to distract myself from all the stories I couldn't face writing, I created two characters to keep myself writing. I fell in love with them and their story grew into The Brede Chronicles, Book 1! Alekzander Brede and Elektra Tate are my two favorite of all my romance characters. Each is unusual and so is their relationship! I just love them.
P.I. Barrington Sometimes it's difficult to overcome writer's block. In fact I spent the last year and a half suffering from it, thinking I'd never produce another novel and if I did no one would care! To distract myself from all my WIPs I couldn't face writing, I created two characters and focused on them--the result was my latest novel, The Brede Chronicles, Book 1 through First Realm Publishing.
Many authors claim there is no such thing as writer's block but it happens to me. You kind of have to push through it, writing anything to just to be writing!
