Cover Wars

My book has entered another best book cover contest this month; this time it is Cover Wars!

Each week Author Shout posts 15 book covers in Cover Wars and at the end of the week (Sunday at 8 AM EST) voting will end. The cover with the most votes becomes their book of the week. They will promote it for one week on their website, shout outs, and their newsletter.

Please vote for my A World Without Color book cover. You can vote more than once, but only vote once a day. You can vote again only after full 24 hours or the vote will not count.

You can show further support to my book by clicking on its link and purchasing it if you haven't done so already. :)

Another book cover contest

In AllAuthor Cover of the month August contest my book cover has been shortlisted and earned a spot in top 50 (out of 113 books which started the contest).

Its current rank is #2 and I'm going after #1! For that I need your support. Please vote for A World Without Color now! The contest will be open until the end of August.

Thank you!

My Book Cover Contests

The last few weeks were marked by my e-book A World Without Color taking part in a few cover contests. I should be pleased with how it all ended, though it was such a tight fight to win the AllAuthor contest—I lost it by five votes only!

The Book Designer

My book didn't win the e-Book Cover Design Awards for July 2017 among 93 entries in fiction category. However, it has received the following comment: "An interesting approach, but the composition never comes together, weakening your message. Although it's an ebook only, the cover looks like it was designed more for print."

True, the cover was designed both for print and an e-book but due to some technical problems the paperback edition is late; I hope it will be published this month.

Cover Wars

In Author Shout one-week contest Cover Wars, my book won the 3rd place out of 15 entries that started to compete on August 20 for the title "Book Of The Week". Not bad, huh?

AllAuthor

AllAuthor Cover of the month August contest is my favorite and most exciting contest so far! 113 books started the contest, 24 ended up in finals, and after a long and tight competition with the winner, my book ended up ranked as #2 with only 5 votes behind!

I am proud of this success and very grateful to more than 450 of you who registered to vote for my book cover both in AllAuthor and Cover Wars contests!

AUTHORSdb—The Voting Continues!

On August 31, my e-book A World Without Color has been approved for the ongoing AUTHORSdb Cover Contest 2017! First round voting closes October 15, 2017, so please vote for my book now!

Please vote at the following link here or, if you prefer, get to it via Facebook or Pinterest.

Thank you for helping my book get to the next round of voting!

You can show further support to my book by purchasing it at Amazon or reading it for free at Kindle Unlimited and leaving an honest review.

Thank you very much!

The Voting Goes On!

When I told you that my book A World Without Color was nominated for the TCK Publishing 2017 Readers Choice Awards I didn't know over 1,000 authors signed up for the contest! That is a huge number! Winning in such a strong competition is like winning a lottery three times instead of one but that doesn't prevent us from taking part in that contest and having fun!

If you think the true story of the last three days I spent with my cat Marcel deserves to compete for this title, vote for it! Those of you who already read it have posted great reviews on Amazon and Goodreads (we will talk about those reviews at another time) but now, please, give it your vote too.

Readers have already voted 21,424 times in just the first 2 months for their favorite nominated books and this number will sky-rocket by the end of the voting on December 10. Will your vote be among them as well?

Please follow this link to browse to page 6/16 to the category Memoir and vote for A World Without Color. Thank you!

In another contest, my book cover has passed the first round voting for the 2017 AUTHORSdb Cover Contest and has entered the semi-finals!

Everyone praises A World Without Color cover and has very well accepted it! If you like it, don't wait any longer, please cast your vote here now for the 2017 AUTHORSdb Cover Contest! Thanks!

Danny Needs Your Votes

My new book Look for Me Under the Rainbow has been enrolled in the AllAuthor Cover of the month for May contest, competing with 69 other books!

This year it has been enlisted a day later than other books, so already at the start it didn't have an equal position when it appeared online: it was over 140 votes behind.

This is why my harp seal pup Danny and my book need your help more than ever! Please vote for Look for Me Under the Rainbow. Help it catch up and give it a chance to fight the battle of equals. With your support, we stand a chance. Without you . . . well I don't even want to consider that option.

Thank you so much for your support! I look forward to your votes!

Please follow this link if you want to purchase Look for Me Under the Rainbow on Amazon.

To get A World Without Color, a true story of the last three days with my cat, this is the link where you can find it on Amazon.

Please consider leaving an honest review for either both or just one book. Thank you!

Your Votes and My Smiles

Don’t believe an author who tells you they don’t like their books. It’s a pure lie. If we didn’t like the books we wrote, we wouldn’t publish them and share them with you! That is the real truth.

Since we already did that—wrote them, invest a bigger or smaller amount of time, money and enthusiasm to publish them and bring the final product in front of you to enjoy, love or hate it (heaven forbid the last one happens!)—we also hope and count on your support and kindness to help our books reach others and continue their life through your purchased copies, word-of-mouth recommendations, honest reviews or votes in various contests.

As it was the case with my first novella A World Without Color, I have also entered my second novella Look for Me Under the Rainbow to a few contests. This moving story of the adorable seal pup Danny and the Rainbow Warriors activist Helen who is trying to save him from the plight caused by greedy humans already went through two contests.

In The Book Designer’s e-Book Cover Design Contest for April it was reviewed by the guest judge Kit Foster, an award-winning graphic designer who specializes in book cover design. He has designed the covers for over 1500 published works for publishers worldwide, including Pulitzer Prize winners, several New York Times best-selling authors, and countless Amazon bestsellers.

This is his comment for my book cover designed by Mario Kožar MKM Media: “I like the imagery in this one, The adorable seal pup, the crisp white snow, which beautifully contrasts the figure in red and the rainbow above. I think the text, however, could be a lot stronger. The title font, especially, could do to be re-thought. This is a tricky one, since the title contains six words, all of different lengths – it’s a lot to fit in and maintain a balanced design. I’m unsure what the reason for making the word ‘Me’ a different size to the rest of the words on the same line was, too.” Not a bad comment at all, coming from such a reputable graphic designer. I am pleased!

In the second book cover contest to which I submitted, Look for Me Under the Rainbow entered the finals of AllAuthor cover contest for May and it ended up ranked #6! This is a good result considering that due to the error the book entered the contest with one day and 140 votes delay!

This contest is over for my story of Danny and we cannot do anything about it anymore. But my book is running and competing in two other contests and I hope and wish for your votes there.

Look for Me Under the Rainbow has been approved in YA and Middle-Grade Book Category of the TCK Publishing 2018 Reader’s Choice Awards so please follow this link and browse to page 12 where you can cast your vote for it in this book of the year contest! If you have read my book and loved it, please don’t forget to vote for it.

You can also vote in AUTHORSdb: Author Database, Books and Top Charts Cover Contest 2018 for the cover of the year in Literary / Young Adult category. I hope you like my book cover enough to click here and cast your precious vote for it!

Book and book cover contests are fun and often excited, and it is not the end of the world if your book doesn’t win. Only one book per category wins and sometimes it is a question of good marketing and promotion and a bit of luck to win the title. What counts is sharing this experience with other books, authors and readers who vote for their favorites and the extra exposure your book gets while taking part in such contests. That exposure will help it find a way to another grateful reader and fan who will appreciate the power of your imagination and writing skills enough to share it with others who will bring a smile to your face and love it too.

Thank you for reading this and thank you for your votes!

January River Cover and Blurb Reveal

Between sixty aftershocks that are shaking the ground after two strong earthquakes hit Zagreb on a Sunday morning and the threat of a deadly virus, my heart is filled with gratitude and excitement as I reveal the cover and the blurb for January River, my first novel in English. I’ve been working and waiting over a year for this moment to arrive, so I hope it finds its way to the hearts of many readers and fans.

Domi at Inspired Cover Designs did a stunning cover for my eBook and paperback editions, so if you ever need a skilled cover designer, give her a chance!

Indie authors, Jonathan Hill and Michael Evans, have big credits for the final look of my blurb, so please show them some love by reading and reviewing their books.

January River Blurb

Five friends. One dog. One river carrying a secret.

When one of their friends goes missing, everything comes crashing down for the small group of childhood friends in the small town of Greenfield. Ethan takes it hard. Then he loses his dog, his only consolation.

Hoping to start anew, Ethan leaves Greenfield and moves to New York City. Far from the ghosts of his childhood and the river that gives and takes life. There he finds his one true love and builds a career as a bestselling author.

But how long will Ethan’s happiness last as doubts creep back into him and shatter his reality? And will his reconciliation with the past come at too great a price?

All rivers carry their secrets, but not every river keeps its secret forever.

In this heartwarming coming-of-age literary fiction with episodes of mystery and romance cross-genre story, Bernard Jan, the author of Look for Me Under the Rainbow and A World Without Color, speaks of true friendship, first darlings, and real loves. With gentle words he describes our connection with nature and love for our four-legged friends who quickly become honorable members of our families, but also tells about the dark secrets we carry in our hearts.

Thank you all who brought me here. January River will be available for purchase on Amazon in April.

Cruel Summer Cover and Blurb Reveal

With the beginning of the new year comes the moment to announce my new book launch! And I start it with its cover and blurb reveal.

I originally wrote Cruel Summer in Croatian over 20 years ago. By the end of February this year, I will release it in English. Cruel Summer is a Young Adult cross-genre novel with elements of social and family issues, teen and child abuse, extreme sports, conspiracy, mystery, murder and crime investigation, teen romance, sci-fi and dystopia.

I hope I won’t be distracted this time with earthquakes and other unpredictable situations and thus forced to postpone my release date again.

Indie author Dean Cole did a fantastic job and made me fall in love with his stunning eBook and paperback cover. Working with Dean was a genuine pleasure. He is the fastest designer I worked with and he will professionally meet and fulfill your requirements before you are aware it is over. It took him only three days to deliver me such a brutally good book cover, as one of my friends commented it. Do I need to say more?

Another indie author, also from the UK, saved me by helping me with the blurb for Cruel Summer when I was stuck with it. Jonathan Hill was my savior and magician also for the blurbs for my other two books, January River and Look for Me Under the Rainbow. This time again he did an amazing job, and I can never thank him enough for his professionalism, patience and kind help.

Cruel Summer Blurb

All he wants to do is skate. But they have other plans for him.

Michael Daniels is seventeen and dreams to enter professional skateboarding contests. But beneath New Manhattan, a city under the oppressive shadow of climate change, exists another world altogether—secret laboratories which threaten society as he knows it.

Those with power will get what they want. No price is too high, even if it means making someone special or robbing them of their dignity, freedom . . . or life.

The price is too high for Michael, though. He has endured his stepfather’s abuse and mind games for almost as long as he remembers. Until one day he takes matters into his own hands, ruining the lives of those he loves most. And his skateboarding friends, Alien and Victor, are his only hope for freedom.

When there is no hope left, friendship is what remains.

Please show some love to Dean and Jonathan by following them on their Twitter and on Goodreads where you can also find their books.

And don’t forget to look for Cruel Summer when it goes online and becomes available on my Amazon profile.

Postcards From Beyond Reality Blurb and eBook Cover Reveal

The time has come for me to share my new happiness, my new eBook release announcement with you! Postcards From Beyond Reality: The Selected Poems of Michael Daniels is a young adult poetry book I wrote as a companion that is a sibling book to my novel Cruel Summer.

Originally published in Croatian in a periodical Forum in 2003, Postcards From Beyond Reality: The Selected Poems of Michael Daniels will be released on Amazon on March 20, 2022 as an eBook and a few days later as a paperback! But you can pre-order it now!

In this book of poetry, I dived into the mind of a teenage protagonist Michael Daniels from my novel Cruel Summer, writing about his dreams, longings, desires, traumas, passions. If that isn’t intriguing enough, I hope my book description will be.

***

His life has been a cocktail of melancholy, sorrow, and desire. When a skateboarder dips his pen into poetry, what will his passion create?

After a lifetime of abuse and the tragic loss of his mother, NYC teen Michael Daniels needed an outlet. Despite his cheerful nature, his inner mind was teeming with the stark contrast of darkness and light. So, in this volume full of imagery and symbolism, his underground rhymes reflect days full of extreme sports, failed relationships, and nostalgic memories.

Written by Bernard Jan in character as the hero from his novel Cruel Summer, this channeled view of the world is an extravaganza of extremes. And in its groundbreaking perspectives, you’ll discover the cries of a heart longing to be understood.

Buy this book of poetry and feel Michael’s passion through these unusual literary postcards.

***

I want to thank the authors from the Best Page Forward team who helped me with my blurb and Jessica Bell for the amazing book cover I am also presenting here. I hope you will embrace this book and treat it with love and affection.
