The Thousand Years War Series Review
If you are a fan of high-packed action novels, and the rivers of gore and piles of dead, burned or evaporated bodies are your kind of thing, then you are at the right place! Welcome to The Thousand Years War Series by Angel Ramon Medina!
If we still don't believe we are not alone in the universe, it is the moment to reconsider our beliefs and everything they taught us as kids. Earth is under attack and our future and the future of our world rests on the shoulders of a few—a tiny group of four people—who put themselves on the frontiers of the new global war to save mankind.
Angel, Maria, Dayvon and Luis, popularly called our heroes in the three-book series, knew little about each other when the great evil decided to take over Earth for itself. They didn't have time to get familiar and overcome their differences when they bravely joined forces and stood against the new hostile, ruthless and violent alien race called gloobas, who already fought the similar war a thousand years ago. To save our world, they used a new virtual reality weapon, for whatever happens in this virtual world also happens on Earth.
In The Thousand Years War Trilogy casualties are many on both sides though the dead gloobas outnumber a lot dead humans and members of other alien races. Fight for survival is going on in all corners of known and unknown worlds: Brooklyn, Hollywood, the Arctic Core, the Solar System, black holes, outer space. Action scenes line up one after another like in a furious action motion picture, especially in The Thousand Years War and Revenge of the Gloobas: The Third Book of the Thousand Years War, while Framed: The Second Book of the Thousand Years War gives us the brief moment of deceptive break when we get to feel the taste of a normal life of our heroes. In this central—and the shortest— part of the series, Angel, a victim of dirty politics and human enemies, has to justify his good name and his family's good name before he can take matters back into his own hands and sets himself into the ultimate and final showdown with the gloobas.
Even though all three books need additional polishing and editing and the author's writing skills a little fine-tuning (Revenge of the Gloobas much less than The Thousand Years War and Framed), this Brooklyn-born Puerto Rican young writer gave us an amazing sci-fi adventure saga. On 1,030 pages (brace yourself for a long reading!) Angel Ramon Medina gave us evidence of his very vivid imagination and enormous capacity to write much and to write fast!
It should not be left unnoticed that in only seven months Medina wrote, designed, self-published and marketed three of his novels and Angel's Nightmare Adventures short story, which is a 2016 precedent! So whether we like alien-related stories or not, we must give Angel Ramon Medina credit for rocking the 2016 universe. 2016 was the year of Medina-writing-machine and we shouldn't surprise ourselves that the gloobas stood little chances under the onslaught of his virtual pen!

The Shadowverse: May the Shadowforce Be with You

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
2019 is the year of discoveries for me. By accident, or guided by the starlight, I wouldn’t know, I came upon two teenage writers and authors who are still not out of their classrooms but are already “competing” with thousands of more experienced writers on equal footing on Amazon and other book-selling platforms.
In February this year, Michael Evans disarmed me and won my sympathies with his dystopian Control Freakz. A month later, John-Clement Gallo did it with his Sci-Fi adventure novel The Shadowverse.
“This parallel universe, what I call the Shadowverse, is a mere shadow of this one, where energies of all kinds reign. It is connected to this one by a series of wormholes—the creators of which I do not yet know. Sometimes the portals open where they should not.”
If this “definition” of the Shadowverse, in the words of the villain Titan, is not enough for you to grab and time-travel through this book, then I hope the group of six of our superheroes with their incredible powers gathered under the name the Shadowforce will be. Just out of their teenage years, they are warriors of the universe on a mission to save our home planet from the alien force which wants to take it over.
Still being a teenager, Gallo delivers us natural, funny and witty dialogues between his young protagonists and development of a clumsy romantic relationship I enjoyed very much. His personal expertise in martial arts (he is ranked a black belt in taekwondo and hapkido) gives his fighting scenes an extra-realistic touch and excitement.
But it is his love for astronomy, astrophysics and distant worlds that breathes life into this story. John-Clement is a teenager who dreams of stars. His enchantment by a star-spangled night sky and the modern culture of superheroes saving us in various blockbusters and comics is the real juice that sets his imagination in motion by creating a fast paced and action-packed story of tall, likeable and ordinary-young-people-turned-superheroes with an important mission.
If we had doubts about the future of Sci-Fi or dystopian genres, we can be at peace now. Both Gallo and Evans want to save humanity, they both have talent to entertain us and capture our attention, and their determination to write and publish the series of books is nothing but commendable ambition at such a young age.
What more is there to say?

Lone Wolf Review

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Too much is going on in my head now to write a standard, comprehensive review. The flood of thoughts and emotions. Which might be a good thing. Because this book hit me like a sledgehammer, and I couldn’t and didn’t want to put it down once I started reading it.
Is it a fight of a sole young man against the strongest dark forces of the world? A boy who lost everything dear and most precious to him on his quest to save the humanity from the darkness descending like a massive dome over the entire world? Is it a story that in the sixth book in the series already spreads through your systems and sets your adrenaline on fire like a lava melting the steep slopes of an ancient volcano? Or an untamable imagination of the young author that breaks every border and discovers new heroes and villains, new dire and challenging situations and intense states of mind? Or is it the sign of the time from the future which doesn’t look so futuristic and impossible in our world today?
Lone Wolf by Michael Evans resonates with every fiber of my being. Learning from his Acknowledgements that this was the last book he was writing as a non-adult person makes it astonishing. What an achievement!
Welcome to the adulthood, Michael, and may all the forces of the universe be with you and your writing.

Deadwave: Conspiracy Chronicles Prequel Review

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
After I read six books from the Conspiracy Chronicles series by the young author Michael Evans, I was eager to read its prequel which takes place several years before the events in the first book in the series, Breakdown. Michael nailed it again. In Deadwave he realistically describes Sam’s emotional state of mind and all the darkness of his suicidal thoughts after he lost his mom who killed herself by jumping off a cliff.
Emotions, regrets, qualms of conscience. The entire atmosphere around his father and best friend Jake are so painfully described as he was describing his personal trauma. It is an honest reminder to all of us on what we sacrifice to reach our goals by not spending enough time or sharing love with our dearest ones. These parts of the book are the most powerful. But they don’t overshadow the other parts when Sam follows his dream to become the best player in the virtual reality zombie-infested video game Deadwave.
Deadwave: Conspiracy Chronicles Prequel only confirms the exceptional potential of young Evans as a writer with a fantastic imagination, impressive writing skills, and the power to capture us into his dystopia-science fiction-thriller world. Another success and a must read!

Vengeance Is Theirs

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Young Gallo did it again! After his successful first young adult, sci-fi, superhero, adventure novel, The Shadowverse, J.C. is giving us another treat titled The Shadowerse: Vengeance.
Without further ado, I am going to say I loved it and enjoyed it! And it’s not because I was among the first Earthlings who had the pleasure of reading it (it’s not vanity, it’s called beta reading); I cannot tell for certain how many aliens saw the manuscript before me since J.C. has often his gaze fixed on the night-sky and the outer space. I did it because it is a fun and entertaining read.
Just as it was the case in The Shadowverse, I enjoyed his funny and witty dialogues which made his superheroes and other protagonist soooo real. Although his black belt in Taekwondo and Hapkido helped him to master exciting action scenes, and his vivid imagination created beautiful realms with which we share our existence, Gallo has a knack for writing dialogues and describing situations that will make you giggle and laugh.
So, whose vengeance we are talking about? Is it The Shadowforce with Johnny, Ryan, Sam, Jane, and Rose, or the dark forces of defeated Titan and the new evil entity that called itself The Breath of Death as it wreaks havoc all over the Earth? It’s not on me to reveal you that; this is why this talented teenage author wrote a sequel to The Shadowverse for all of us to enjoy his story while the pleasant images of Star Wars saga and Fantastic Four flash in the back of our mind.
Make no mistake, The Shadowforce has its own value and uniqueness, just as it has each of its superheroes and other heroes who will become your darlings as Kevin became mine!
Thank you, J.C., for Vengeance, thank you for your persistence in recruiting me as your beta and for the exciting four days I spent with your book. I just wish it lasted longer.

Cruel Summer Cover and Blurb Reveal
With the beginning of the new year comes the moment to announce my new book launch! And I start it with its cover and blurb reveal.
I originally wrote Cruel Summer in Croatian over 20 years ago. By the end of February this year, I will release it in English. Cruel Summer is a Young Adult cross-genre novel with elements of social and family issues, teen and child abuse, extreme sports, conspiracy, mystery, murder and crime investigation, teen romance, sci-fi and dystopia.
I hope I won’t be distracted this time with earthquakes and other unpredictable situations and thus forced to postpone my release date again.
Indie author Dean Cole did a fantastic job and made me fall in love with his stunning eBook and paperback cover. Working with Dean was a genuine pleasure. He is the fastest designer I worked with and he will professionally meet and fulfill your requirements before you are aware it is over. It took him only three days to deliver me such a brutally good book cover, as one of my friends commented it. Do I need to say more?
Another indie author, also from the UK, saved me by helping me with the blurb for Cruel Summer when I was stuck with it. Jonathan Hill was my savior and magician also for the blurbs for my other two books, January River and Look for Me Under the Rainbow. This time again he did an amazing job, and I can never thank him enough for his professionalism, patience and kind help.
Cruel Summer Blurb
All he wants to do is skate. But they have other plans for him.
Michael Daniels is seventeen and dreams to enter professional skateboarding contests. But beneath New Manhattan, a city under the oppressive shadow of climate change, exists another world altogether—secret laboratories which threaten society as he knows it.
Those with power will get what they want. No price is too high, even if it means making someone special or robbing them of their dignity, freedom . . . or life.
The price is too high for Michael, though. He has endured his stepfather’s abuse and mind games for almost as long as he remembers. Until one day he takes matters into his own hands, ruining the lives of those he loves most. And his skateboarding friends, Alien and Victor, are his only hope for freedom.
When there is no hope left, friendship is what remains.
Please show some love to Dean and Jonathan by following them on their Twitter and on Goodreads where you can also find their books.
And don’t forget to look for Cruel Summer when it goes online and becomes available on my Amazon profile.

Cruel Summer eBook Launch Day on Amazon!
All I wanted to do is to publish this book. But I had other books plans before that one.
After many years of preparations, testing, trial and error, waiting and burning excitement, Cruel Summer launch day is here, and the eBook is available at Amazon marketplaces!
Cruel Summer is a gripping, unexpected, strong, and emotional YA cross-genre story about an abused teenage boy and a poet in New Manhattan, Michael Daniels, who only wants to skate and enter skateboarding contests, and the loyalty of friendship that stands as the shield between those with power and his freedom. Michael’s skateboarding friends, Alien and Victor, are his only hope when things go wrong and mysteries and secrets start to unfold, threatening to turn their society into an authoritarian dystopia. Because when there is no hope left, friendship is what remains.
All he wants to do is skate. By they have other plans for him.
Cruel Summer has elements of family and social issues, extreme sports, conspiracy, murder, mystery, teen romance as a subplot, and even sci-fi and dystopia as a touch of alternative history. It carries a strong message of friendship.
Although the main protagonists are three friends, skateboarders from New York City at the end of the millennium, Cruel Summer is not just a novel about extreme sports. It is a deep story of a family and sexual abuse, and the exploitation of power by those who have the means to use it over the individuals and the population in general. Having a strong human rights and environmental message, it will also appeal to those who love reading these books.
Originally published as Okrutno ljeto in Croatian in 2014, Cruel Summer is still a hot topic today.

Cruel Summer Paperback
It took a small conspiracy to publish the paperback edition of my novel Cruel Summer! Since Amazon has restricted international delivery of print books to Croatia, I couldn’t order my proof copy to approve it before publishing it. I’ve been waiting for a month for this restriction to be removed, but no one could tell me when that would happen.
Out of pure desperation, I asked my US based friend Thomas if he could help me with checking out my proof copy. He said yes; I sent him my book from Amazon; he took photos of it and emailed them to me. When I was certain that the book was ready to be released, I hit the publish button and published my paperback.
This is a story on how the story of an abused teenage skateboarder, Michael Daniels, came to life on March 8, 2021 on Amazon. Its paperback price is $17.99 and you can order it here.
Michael Daniels is seventeen and dreams to enter professional skateboarding contests. But beneath New Manhattan, a city under the oppressive shadow of climate change, exists another world altogether—secret laboratories which threaten society as he knows it.

I hope this blurb is catchy enough for you to get your copy or buy it as a gift for someone else.
The book cover is beautifully designed by Dean Cole and I guarantee you, you will love it. Dean’s design is mind-blowing. He perfectly portrayed the spirit and the theme of the novel. I don't doubt that holding this book in your hands will give you a special reading experience.

Do you like books that cross genres and mix them in a surprising read you cannot put down? Cruel Summer has all that and more for you: family and social issues, extreme sports, conspiracy, murder, mystery, teen romance as a subplot, and sci-fi and dystopia as a touch of alternative history with a powerful message of friendship.
Sounds impossible? But it’s not!
“Crossing genres is always difficult, and thankfully, this one works well. It offers many angles for every type of reader. Even for those who aren’t fans of dystopia / sci-fi or who’ve never been on a skateboard in their lives . . . you’ll be pulled in for all the other reasons.”
—James J. Cudney, author of Watching Glass Shatter, Hiding Cracked Glass, Father Figure, Braxton Campus Mysteries series and Weathering Old Souls
