Michael Jecks is a best-selling writer of historical novels. The son of an Actuary, and the youngest of four brothers, he worked in the computer industry before becoming a novelist full time in 1994

He is the author of the internationally popular Templar series, perhaps the longest crime series written by a living author. Unusually, the series looks again at actual events and murders committed about the early fourteenth century, a fabulous time of treachery, civil war, deceit and corruption. Famine, war and disease led to widespread despair, and yet the people showed themselves to be resilient. If you want to make a living as a writer, it takes more than most jobs, because you have to live dependent on other people's work. It's the booksellers who make your living for you. So, authors have to be the creative spirits who invent stories, but also have to work at marketing, PR and all the other aspects. We have to be silent, hidden souls while writing, and then loud and gregarious the rest of the time. I have to concentrate like a lunatic while making up plots and characters, so I need to work hard in my spare time just to relax and get rid of those demons!(less)
