Spaceships and galaxy spanning empires, conversations with angels, viking villages, haunted mansions and forbidden love in the Age of Sail... I love a good strong plot in an exotic setting, with characters you can admire, and a happy ending.

If you make a venn diagram of genres, including historical, fantasy, gay romance and mystery, I occupy the space in the middle where they overlap.

~

BTW, if you're thinking my reviews on here are a bit mean, most of the books I really enjoy will get a 4 star. I am saving 5 stars for books I find genuinely life changing. 4 is still "this was really really good, you should read it." 5 is "OMG, my mind is blown and my life will never be the same again."

Always finish the projects you've started. That's a firm rule. Do not stop until you've reached the end, or you will never get anything finished.

Also, hang out with authors, agents, publishers etc on social media. You'll get lots of industry tips and you'll also be in the right place to hear of any submissions calls as soon as they're made.

If you have something that might fit a submissions call, submit it. Don't wait until you think you're perfect, because that might be never. Get your stuff out there and keep putting it out there until it sells. Meanwhile, write the next thing.(less)

Thanks so much for the interest :) I had a year of terrible writer's block and I've had to eat some of my words about how it's always possible to power through. Sometimes the writer's block wins, alas!

However, I am in fact currently working on a non-fiction book about how to live a more eco-friendly life. Once I've finished that, I'll move on to book three of Unquiet Spirits. I've got as far as making it its own folder and giving it a title - Fires of Wrath, and it is officially the next thing on my list. I'm sorry that the answer is just 'watch this space' but you're right that I haven't abandoned it. It will just be a little while longer before it's out.(less)

I (Still) Aten’t Dead

Well, it was Covid when I made my last post in this blog! I wonder if it still works? Much of my website doesn’t, and I may be breaking it further by trying to fix it.

Many things have happened since then – chief among them being me getting fibromyalgia and having to adapt to life as a disabled person. Also the world seemed to be spiraling into depths of misery I had not been prepared f

“if sex could exist without love, it surely stood to reason that love could exist without sex.”
Alex Beecroft, Blue Steel Chain

Alex Beecroft, Shining in the Sun

“To all the asexual activists out there without whom I would still be thinking of myself as merely weird, wrong, and slightly inhuman. In the hope that the more people talk about it, the fewer people there will be in the world who reach my age without knowing what they are.”
