Road Trip & Summer News
What a gorgeous August we're having here in central Illinois! Mild weather, no bugs, and sunshine nearly everyday. I've been taking advantage of the unseasonably lovely weather to play in my garden, but starting tomorrow I'm off on a road trip with my good friend, Jade Lee. We'll be driving to Pennsylvania, spending a week at a Bed and Breakfast at a writing retreat with three other writer friends and then driving back. On the way home we hope to stop by several bookstores to take a break and sign stock. Stay tuned!
I have wonderful news! I've just signed a contract with my publisher for a new contemporary romance under my alter ego, Julia Harper. I'm writing it right now and it's tentatively scheduled for release summer of 2014.
In other news I'll be appearing at Barbara Vey's Reader Appreciation Luncheon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, April 26, 2014. Many other authors are attending, including the wonderful Debbie Macomber, who will be the luncheon speaker. I hope to see you there!

A Romance Novel Cover Photo Shoot
Oh, I wished I lived in New York City! Not for the weather or traffic, but because if I did I might be able to attend another photo shoot for one of my book covers. But the next best thing to attending is watching my editor, Amy Pierpont's Twitter stream as she posts outtakes from the shoot. Here's a few in case you missed the live stream this morning for
Duke of Sin
, Montgomery's book coming Spring 2016. Enjoy!

Maiden Lane Continues!
Glorious news, Peeps: more Maiden Lane books are in the works! Last night I signed a contract with my publisher for three more Maiden Lane books (Books #10, 11, & 12) and three Maiden Lane novellas. My fall just got a whole lot busier, but I'm very excited. Right now I'm writing Valentine Napier, the Duke of Montgomery's story. It's titled
Duke of Sin
, it'll be out late Spring 2016, and you can already pre-order it on Amazon Kindle (which I always find a tad unsettling since I haven't finished the book yet.)
THANK YOU to all my beautiful, wonderful, and, of course, very intelligent and tasteful readers and hang on for more Maiden Lane!

Copy Edits and More...
The snow has finally arrived here in Minneapolis, Minnesota and as I type the sun is sparkling off white drifts in my backyard. I'm inside all cozy with two dogs on my lap and Darla on her big bed by my chair.
I just got the copy edits for Duke of Sin . Copy edits are the second-to-last step in the editorial process before the book is published--at least at Grand Central Publishing, my publisher. What I actually received in my inbox was three documents. First, an editorial form letter telling me that I really, really ought to read the copyedits (perhaps some authors don't?) and giving me the date I need to get them back to my editor. Secondly, a "style sheet" for the book, which lists things like the name for every character mentioned in the book (so that we can all agree on the right spelling), esoteric words (almost all my more interesting four-letter words end up here) and words with hyphens that once again I've missed. And finally, the manuscript itself, all marked up with the copy editor's comments and edits. My job is to read through the manuscript and make sure everything is in order.
The reason I tell you all this is because after I'm finished with the copy edits is when I take the excerpts that I put in the newsletter. So if you're not subscribed to my newsletter (why not?) and you'd like to get a sneak peak at Val's book before it comes out, subscribe now! www.elizabethhoyt.com I'll be sending the first excerpt this month.
Meanwhile, Duke of Sin is already available for preorder at most stores including Kindle and Nook and you can of course shelf it on Goodreads by hitting that lovely little green Want to Read button. Why not?
Enjoy!

Upcoming Appearances
Whew! This has been a busy spring (I'm calling it spring even though there's still snow on the ground here in Minnesota.) I just finished the first draft of Duke of Desire (out October 17th) and I'm now working on Once Upon a Maiden Lane, an enovella out October 3rd.
Meanwhile, I just had a look at my calendar and realized that the RT Booklovers Convention is coming up soon. This year it's in Atlanta and will run from May 2-7. I'll be there at the big booksigning as well as at least one panel and two reader parties! I hope you'll join me.

Hello 2018!
I'm just chuffed to announce that my publisher and I have come to an agreement on a new three-book contract! I always feel like chortling when I stop and think that I make my living as a romance writer--it seems so very unlikely. Thank you to all of you who have bought and read and reviewed my books over the years. Without you I wouldn't be doing what I love most.
The Maiden Lane series is well and truly over but I've received some rather pointed protests about Joseph Tinbox and Peach, so if you've been waiting for their story I have good news. In 2018 I'll be serializing their story in my monthly newsletter as Once Upon a Missive. I do hope you enjoy it!
