Sally Bend is a queer (trans/nonbinary) author and editor of #LGBTQIA books.

Although shy and polite (I am neurodivergent AND Canadian), I love the bold and boisterous expression of stories that bend the binaries of gender and sexuality.

As a reader, my shelves are as diverse as my passions, but what readers will encounter most is fantasy, science fiction, adventure, romance, and erotica.

As an author, I love fantasy, femdom, femininity, and fetish, and am most content when confined to the keyboard in a collar and corset. Yes, in case you're wondering, I do have a fetish for alliteration!

I just let my mind wander as I walk, and try not to think anything specific. Before long there will be a scene or even a snippet of dialogue that flashes through my thoughts.

My biggest challenge at that point is trying to either remember it or somehow write it down. The nice thing about a cellphone is that I can dictate notes to myself and not look like completely crazy - so long as nobody really pays attention to what I am saying, of course. I have gotten some really odd (and really disgusted) looks, but every once in a while I will find a knowing smile pass by.(less)

Honestly, it does not matter what you write, just keep your fingers typing or your pen moving. Write whatever comes to mind, whether it be a letter to someone that you will never send, or a personal fantasy that you will never publish. Get in the habit of writing something every day.

Once you have something written (and this is the hardest part for me), let somebody else read it. It is hard to let go, to trust that it is good enough, but you have to start somewhere . . . and it is usually not as bad as you fear. Whether the feedback you get is in the form of editorial critique or just feel-good praise, it all helps.(less)
