The Resolve of Winter
The Resolve of Winter
The harshness of winter is carried lightly on a breeze
Bending blackened branches to wave goodbye to its leaves.
Cold are the nights as the sun disappears from the day
And eerie is the silence when the stars come out to play.
Without pity is that winter showering misery and pain in its wake.
Watching on and smiling at the hearts and backs it does break.
But compassion comes with Christmas, but does it last beyond a day,
Or is it just like winter’s sympathy; with no resolve to really stay?

A Gentle Stroll
Many a woodland path have I strolled
Through balmy winds and those that blow cold,
But now as life digs in and takes its toll
Old legs forbid such a demanding stroll.
Orchards in blossom sway in my mind
Perhaps they too I have left behind,
But even if life is beyond my control
I will still find a place where I can stroll.
Over bracken moorland, over stony ground
Paths I’ve wandered, paths I’ve found.
Leaves I’ve trodden and streams I’ve crossed,
Both when fair and sometimes in hoarfrost.
When the winter rain does come driving hard and fast
It will not determine this winter as my last.
But for now whilst the sun shines from morn till eve,
I shall bathe in its sunlight dreaming of paths I shall not leave.

Is To Wish To Be Wrong?
To not live alone and be apart
To welcome love and share a heart
To take a blow without complaint
To offer peace without constraint.
To be pure when morals scream
To only see the beauty in all you dream
To show compassion to those in need
To be content with no thought of greed.
To wish for nothing and ask for less
To live a life without duress
To offer silence in a raging storm
To be yourself and not conform.
To accept the pitfalls along your path
To smile and always be willing to laugh
To see the good where others see bad
To be happy and never be sad.
To be complete with love to spare
To live in colour where nothing’s bare
To encourage and abide
To be humble and not full of pride.
To wish that fear could always abate
To offer friendship and speak no hate
To stand straight and strong beside the weak
To give the innocent a chance to speak.
Perhaps these words come from misty-eyes
And most of the things have been tried
But sentiment or not I know this much is true
My wishes for a future are better than that I now view.
