You get the leeway to construct those realities through different situations whose outcomes you can control as a writer. To find your unique voice, it is important to drop all the masks that we sometimes tend to wear as we assume various roles in society. To be a good writer, it's paramount to be one's real self and bare one's soul. It's also good to stay abreast of current news and developments, historical events, etc., and read various genres and formats voraciously. Traveling also helps, if you get a chance to do so. When I say traveling, I don't mean the regular tourist's travel--but rather exploring the less explored areas, venturing deep into the unknown and absorbing the vibe of the place and its people. To be a writer, one must be ready to leap off one's comfort zone.(less)
