On the days things aren't clicking, I force myself to get the words down anyway. It's often easier to revise and figure out what you wanted to say once the words are in front of you.(less)

Write regularly.

Make friends with other aspiring writers.

Read a lot.

Go to book-related events.

Take creative writing classes when available.

Always be professional and good to work with, even if you're writing for free. Meet your deadlines. Don't throw tantrums. Proofread your stuff.

Respond well to feedback. If someone takes time to read the unfinished version of a long project, they have done you a wonderful favor.

Expect 100 rejections of various types before you get your first book published. Then, if you get rejected 80 times, you'll feel like a superstar.(less)

“Sometimes being a great teacher means learning to function in a dysfunctional environment. Save your fighting strength until you have enough experience to be taken seriously, and until you know which battles o fight.”
Roxanna Elden, See Me After Class: Advice for Teachers by Teachers

“Sacrificing your own happiness, sleep, and general will to live probably won't benefit your students as much as being a mentally healthy teacher who wants to be in the room with them.”
Roxanna Elden, See Me After Class: Advice for Teachers by Teachers

“The chance to escape from Brae Hill Valley had afforded her a new lightness that extended to every part of her life.”
