Black Beauty and The Black Stallion were favorites. I also loved The Trumpet of the Swan, Frog and Toad, The Dragon Riders of Pern, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Clan of the Cave Bear, The Plague Dogs, The Rats of N.I.M.H., The Borrowers, The Littles, The Lord of the Flies, and so many more! I didn't read straight forward human stories too often. I preferred books that had animals and held an element of fantasy.

The book that made me an author is Watership Down by Richard Adams. I didn't believe that a long book about rabbits could be interesting. Richard Adams proved me wrong! I recognized the power an author has to make up a new world or to reimagine an existing world, and I knew I wanted to write too!

I visualized a herd of flying horses migrating through the clouds above me. A heavily pregnant mare was flying in the rear, struggling to keep up, and none of the pegasi tried to help her. I knew instantly that her foal was special, but that he was also a threat to the herd. I became instantly obsessed with him and knew I had to write his story. As soon as I arrived home, I began writing STARFIRE, and I barely stopped to breathe until the first draft was finished. STARFIRE will be released on 09/23/14, and I can't wait for kids to read it!(less)

I love this chilling anthology. Each author brings a unique voice to their story. My favorite was The Backwoods, by Shells Legoullon. The suspense and atmosphere are spot on. I was hooked from the eerie beginning to the shocking end!

“Look at me; I look like a flying pegasus.” “Squawk,” said Crabwing, dancing in the sand. Suddenly, and without warning, cold rain dumped from the sky, and Star was soaked in seconds. Star nickered to his bird. “That’s what I get for admiring myself.”
Jennifer Lynn Alvarez, Starfire

“Two Mountain Herd stallions were dead, and the rest were outnumbered. The dappled stallion called off his warriors and faced Thunderwing. “Leave our territory,” he said, breathing hard, his thick hair curled with sweat. “Not without all my weanlings,” said Thunderwing. “The two hiding over there, and the two you took hostage.” The dappled steed snorted. “They trespassed.” Thunderwing hesitated. “Then tell Rockwing I request a meeting.” The Mountain Herd stallion flared his wings. “A meeting?” He circled the dead bodies of his friends. “How about a war?” Thunderwing grimaced. “Just tell him.”
Jennifer Lynn Alvarez, Starfire

“The hours were golden and warm, dappled with laughter and soaked with hope. And then the five of us made a big fucking mistake.”
Jennifer Lynn Alvarez, Lies Like Wildfire

Jennifer Lynn Alvarez Wow! That is the nicest thing I've ever heard! Thank you so much, you just gave me a warm fuzzy :)

Would you mind sharing that in a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads too?

Either way, thanks for contacting me! I hope you also like book two which should be out in a few months or so.

Have a great day!

Terah Edun I loved The Pet Washer! I've never seen anything like it before. It has the vibe of contempoary chic lit with the soul of epic fantasy. Kudos to you.
