Kelsi asked Jennifer Lynn Alvarez:

What horse books did you read when you were a kid (If you read when you were a kid)? And, if you did read as a kid, did those books inspire you to someday become an author? :)

Jennifer Lynn Alvarez Yes, I did read when I was a kid--all the time! I loved animal fantasy books, especially books about horses. Black Beauty and The Black Stallion were favorites. I also loved The Trumpet of the Swan, Frog and Toad, The Dragon Riders of Pern, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Clan of the Cave Bear, The Plague Dogs, The Rats of N.I.M.H., The Borrowers, The Littles, The Lord of the Flies, and so many more! I didn't read straight forward human stories too often. I preferred books that had animals and held an element of fantasy.

The book that made me an author is Watership Down by Richard Adams. I didn't believe that a long book about rabbits could be interesting. Richard Adams proved me wrong! I recognized the power an author has to make up a new world or to reimagine an existing world, and I knew I wanted to write too!
