I was a bit slow to get into The Dog Master, but soon, I was in deep and couldn't put it down. I wonder, did you study the Canine Genome https://www.genome.gov/12511476/2004-advisory-dog-genome-assembled/ to prepare for writing the story? In some parts of your book, I was sure you had and in others, not so sure.

Hi Cathy! I am so glad you liked The Dog Master! "Couldn't put it down" is one of the best compliments an author can receive. I had to do a lot of research, as you can imagine. The science, however, is constantly evolving, so it may be that even as I was writing the novel, opinions were changing.

I am so excited for your new book from the Dogs with a Purpose series entitled “Ripley: Fire Station Five” to come out this August. Now I would like to ask you a question about it. Why did you choose a border collie as the star dog in the book instead of a Dalmatian? Since Dalmatians are associated with fire rescue purposes. I am not complaining, I’m just asking you a simple question.
