Kate -- please tell us more about your background? Did you train and/or work as a journalist? How did you become interested enough in this topic to write a book about it?
Kate Moore
My background is in book publishing - I worked as an editorial director, editing and commissioning books, before becoming a freelance author and editor. I first discovered the story of the Radium Girls through directing a play about them. When I realised there was no book that existed that told the women's story (as opposed to focusing on the tragedy's impact in science and labor law) I decided to write it, wanting to give the individual women a voice.

Mrs. Moore, I am writing a book report on "Radium Girls" for my AP VA/US History class, and I am supposed to include background information on the author. I have included the story of your inspiration for the work, as well as your history in book editing and publishing, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could enlighten me on some of your schooling, if that isn't too intrusive?

I'm reading THE WOMAN THEY COULD NOT SILENCE and its brilliant. RE: Radium Girls. I'd check into where they got the idea for that book.... They include the dial-painters. Making fictional characters based on real people is usually how it works in Hollywood. Your agent might want to do a little research?
