What inspired you to write The One? Who among the characters is your favourite? less favourite?

1. In 2016, my partner and I were planning our wedding for the following year in New York’s City Hall as it’s a city we have both visited before many times and that we love. I was working in London at the time and one evening on my way home, I was on the escalator heading for my tube train, people watching. I was looking at the folk on the other side thinking how lucky I was to have found my match. Then I began wondering how much easier it would be if there was something inside us all that matched us with just one person in the world. And if we came into contact with them, we just knew on instinct, they were the perfect person for us. I started writing The One the next day.
2. My favourite is Christopher the psychopath as he was the most fun to write.
3. My least favourite was Jade. I was even thinking of deleting her but my publisher liked her. And so do readers judging by the feedback I've received. How about you?

My first read from you was The Passengers and now I am almost through with What Lies Between Us. I am loving it as I did The Passengers, but they seem completely different in topics/genres. The Passengers seems slightly more science fiction and What Lies Between Us has no scifi aspect to it so far (I am at 75%). How do you write across genres and maintain the excellence achieved with one genre? Thanks!
