Elaine asked Stephen Booth:

Hello. I thoroughly enjoy your Cooper/Fry series. My mother was from Derbyshire. She was born in Shirebrook, moved to Langwith, and then to Mansfield, Notts so you can imagine how thrilled I was with Dead in the Dark. The level of detail you put into your settings is astounding and really helps to immerse the reader in Derbyshire. Do you have to spend a lot of time in the various places to get that description?

Stephen Booth Hi, Elaine. Many thanks! Yes, I do spend a lot of time in the places I'm writing about - in fact, it's often being in the place that inspires ideas for the story, because I notice small details. It's one of the things I like most about what I do, being able to spend so much time wandering about in the Peak District and calling it 'work'. :) Shirebrook was very interesting to write about too. I remember it when it was a mining community, so the changes I found there were fascinating. I'm glad you enjoyed 'Dead in the Dark'. Stephen
