For many of my books, I am inspired by an idea that I
want to pursue, such as our desire for permanence in
an impermanent universe. Sometimes I am inspired by
meaningful experiences I have had, such as my immersion
in Cambodia over many years -- out of which came my
latest novel THREE FLAMES.

Second, please accept my apologies if I missed the explanation directly or through context, but are the "Three Flames" that Ryna urges her daughters to keep, as well as her own struggles in meeting and forming a relationship with Touch Pheng based on the the Three Universal Truths in Buddhism?
