The Darkest Night has been a long time coming. The concept of the world and the basic elements of the plot are years old. Some elements though, are very new. Sali-Mandu (the main antagonist), those who've read the novel will be surprised to hear, was created after even the outlining process. Originally the villain was going to simply be the mystery of Erebus and the Yekkelle. But Sali-Mandu soon became a core part of the book and I think you'll agree he is a welcome addition.
