A Goodreads user asked Kathy Reichs:

I’m a high school freshman interested in becoming a forensic anthropologist. What advice do you have for someone looking to go into this field?

Kathy Reichs Both psychologically and physically, the job isn't for everyone. Often, you're working with the not-so-pretty dead. Violent death. Forensic anthropologists tend to get the most severe cases, ones that can't be resolved by the pathologist through normal autopsy. Study the hard science not just take some course in general forensic science. If you want to be an anthropologist, you need to study physical anthropology specialized in bones. If you want to be a forensic chemist, get a degree in chemistry. Do you want to do DNA work? Get a degree in microbiology. And do well. Study hard and go to graduate school.
