Absolutely. I travel quite a bit both professionally and for leisure. I never know the story line until it hits me. Usually in the middle of the night.

Most all of my novels are based on case I've worked. Many of the storylines offer a peek into my professional life. Disaster recovery work, human rights work, perhaps a case I've heard about from aa colleague or observed in the lb.

I'd say book Tempe is more like me. Professionally we do the same thing. I work in North Carolina and in Quebec Province in Canada. TV Tempe is tied little more to the Jeffersonian, and a bit more reserved and stand offish. I think I'm not quite as socially awkward as TV Tempe.

I had hoped to continue with the series, but I had no idea I would go on to produce a TV show, write a YA series and 20 years later still be writing a Temperance Brennan novel almost every year. I am very grateful to all of my readers who allow me to continue doing what I love.

I'm open to it. I wrote that series with my son Brendan. He has since written several other books in his own series and I've been focused on Temperance Brennan.

I took a year off to rest. I was diagnosed with an unruptured cerebral aneurysm. For a while everything was fine, everything in place and then the little bubble decided to do some shape shifting. I underwent an embolization. Since the surgery, I experience the occasional migraine, but otherwise all is well.

when I was a kid I liked to reaad the Popular Archaeology book series. I got my Bachelor of Arts degree with a a major in skeletal biology from American University. A year later I completed a Master of Arts in physical anthropology from Northwestern. Forensic requirers some additional skills that aren't necessarily those of the archaeologist, even an archaeologist with a good understanding of osteology and human skeletons. So I did some retraining, and submitted my candidacy for certification from the American Board of Forensic Anthropologists.

Not every book is based on a specific case, but they're all related to something I've done, such as disaster relief work or human rights work. The dangerous situations that Tempe finds herself in are results of me asking myself what if this happened, or what if that happened.

I had just been promoted to full professor at UNCC, and I was free to do whatever I chose. I had just worked on a serial murder case which had some very intriguing elements, so I thought I would use that the basis for a story. I thought writing a novel might bring my science to a larger audience.

Maybe not too gross, but too disturbing. Anything dealing with animal torture. Or anything pertaining to young children being harmed.

I'd love to bring Virals to the big screen or even the small screen. We've met with a few folks and have talked about it. Nothing definite yet, but we are open to it for sure.

Writing for television is very different than writing a novel. It's very much a collaborative process. TV Tempe is probably a younger version of book Tempe with a few minor differences.

I was very pleased with the writers on Bones. I thought they did a wonderful job. TV is a different animal so the changes they made to the character were necessary for TV writing.

Most of my novels are based on a case I've worked. I change the details of the case, but stick with the core idea.

I wrote the Virals series with my son Brendan. Often at book signings I would be asked if my Temperance Brennan series would be appropriate for a younger audience, and the details of dismemberment, or scavenged remains seemed a bit too intense. So we came up with the idea for Virals and Tory is Temperance Brennan's great-niece.
