Preeti asked Lisa See:

Hello Ma'am, I've just finished 'The island of sea women' and totally loved it. Characters felt so real! However, there is one question. Please help me get it's answer- Why did Mi-Ja told Young Sook that she could save only one of her children? Why does she ask her to decide on one child instead of denying to take any of them with her?

Lisa See Great questions, Preeti. These are the big questions of the book, Mi-ja's character, and the way Young-sook reacts. I really feel like it's up to the reader to think about what Mi-ja did or didn't do. Even more important, I hope that readers will think about what they would have done in her situation.
