Hello, you approach many problematic subjects regarding religion and terrorism. How do find a way to strike a balance between portraying these position fairly and sympathetically, and at the same time, exposing the wrongness behind them?

Lawrence Wright I always try to keep an open mind when I'm researching, otherwise I'd never be surprised. Most people believe they're doing the right thing, acting for the good, even cultists and terrorists and shady politicians. I don't agree with what they are doing but I'm always curious about why.

"The Looming Tower" is one of my favorite books (and a pretty good Hulu series as well). I was astounded by the amount of research that must have gone into it. How long did that take? How does your level of research compare in your non-fiction and fiction works? I just moved to Houston to work at the Chronicle and found "God Save Texas" to be very enlightening. I'm becoming a fan.
