Irl
Irl asked Lawrence Wright:

Thank you for your dedication when conducting the 600 interviews for "The Looming Tower" over 5 years. I learned so much from the book. How do you push and probe for information in your interviews without leading your subject in a certain way? Do you provide questions ahead of meeting and/or follow up interviews?

Lawrence Wright Sometimes I provide questions in advance, usually only if I'm asked to do so. I want to be able to improvise as the interview actually takes place. Follow-ups are often as important or more. As I write, questions inevitably occur to me that I forgot to ask. Keeping a relationship with your sources is invaluable.
