Balance is a key feature of all of your books, be it political or environmental. From where in your life did this literary passion originate?

L.E. Modesitt Jr. The idea of balance certainly wasn't genetic. As a youth and young man, I tended toward absolutist "solutions" and approaches, but after spending almost twenty years being involved in some way or another with national politics in Washington, D.C., I realized, probably belatedly, that seldom does extremism work if you want to have survivors.
