Kimberly Karalius
Kimberly Karalius asked Laurell K. Hamilton:

Hi Laurell! My favorite short story of yours is "Geese." Reading it reminded me of a fairy tale. Have you ever found inspiration in fairy tales for your writing? Thanks!

Laurell K. Hamilton Not knowingly, but I loved fairy tales as a child, so I'm sure that went in the mix somewhere. :-) "Geese" was actually more consciously inspired by seeing real Canadian geese settling for the night by a lake in my old apartment complex. There was something that caught my imagination seeing them on the shore with their head's tucked back, the light fading around them, so that they were being swallowed by shadows. It just seemed magical. I had the first line of the story clear in my head. I went inside, sat down, and just wrote the whole story in one muse-filled rush. It is the most complete inspiration experience I've ever had.
