Okay, I know this is going to sound weird, but honestly--HONESTLY--*I'm* not going to be the one who chooses.
I know that sounds weird since I'm the author and all. But the truth is, my characters are VERY real to me. The only thing I control is what *I* do to *them*. How they react/respond is completely up to them. So I do know what kinds of crazy awful (and crazy awesome) things I'll be putting them through as the story continues. But I never know how that will change the characters or what they'll do in response until I write those moments.
As I write, I am CONSTANTLY asking myself: "okay, so what would Sophie do now? And now? And now?" And the same thing applies to all the characters.
So I really, honestly do not know who Sophie is going to choose. I have my theories of course (given how well I know her) but I swear that girl is excellent at surprising me. There have been MANY times when I'd assumed she would react one way, or decide to do a specific thing, and when I went to write that scene, realized I was wrong and that what Sophie would really do was the total opposite. So I'm seriously just as curious as you to see how it all plays out. It really will be her choice. I'm hoping that will mean we'll all understand it and accept that whoever it is, it's who she truly wants, but if not--blame Sophie. I'm just the messenger. (ohhhhh, see what I did there??????) :)
