Goodreads asked Suzanne Nelson:

How do you get inspired to write?

Suzanne Nelson Inspiration comes from everything--dreams, people I come into contact with, history, even other books I read. Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote about being a "transparent eyeball," about absorbing everything that the world has to offer and opening every sense. I listen and I observe. When an idea strikes and sticks, I know it's something I need to pursue. Sometimes, an idea cocoons itself in a corner of my mind where it waits, growing and changing, until I'm ready to write it. Other times, I don't have the luxury of waiting and have to dive right in with an idea. Either way, writing is as much work as inspiration. Dreaming up ideas is only one part of the process; getting them onto paper is the real challenge.
