Easy: The readers. Hands down, every time. Especially the ones in the signing queue or who send in emails explaining how my books actually helped them in some fundamental way - either to make contact with a relative, helped them through a dark time, or allowed them to make better sense of what's going on, or even inspiration. All these generous outpourings give my writing a better purpose, beyond my own rampant ego and financial requirement.

Hi Mr. Fforde-- First, I want you to know that your Thursday Next books were, and still continue to be, a source of absolute wonder and joy in my life. I'm currently getting a double Master's degrees in Shakespeare, so this is a delight for me. So. My question: If you could change one major thing from any Shakespeare play of your choice, what would you change and how would it affect the rest of the narrative?
