Hi, Erika! I am a high school English teacher, and you seem to write about all of my favorite authors. What other authors would you like to write about?

I have always been drawn to Sylvia Plath's work, but her family is extremely private, so I couldn't write a novel about her. I am also drawn to Poe, but there are a host of novels featuring him, so I would likely stay away from the subject. I love Steinbeck's work, but do not feel any connection to him as an individual, which would be necessary if I wrote about him.

As much as I love writing about writers, my new work in progress--while still historical--moves in the suspense direction. I want to continually challenge and reinvent myself.

just finished House of Hawthorne, which has been sitting on my shelf --until this quarantine. I'm now sad not to have read it years ago when you signed it for me! Anyway-- are all the letters included in the book your own invention, or were some of them based on existing letters? Being a teacher of modern American literature, of course, I have so many questions. I have always believed that Scott and Zelda were each other's cancer. Who was more dependent on the other? After all, Zelda wouldn't even agree to marry Scott until he told her that he was published and broke off a "fling" with Auburn's quarterback to do so. She was used to being spoiled. I can also obviously see how she was his muse.
