Dear Mr Rankin, I'm a big fan of crime and detective stories. I lived in Glasgow and Edinburgh during my post grad years and read many of the Inspector Rebus novels. I just finishef "A Legacy of Spies" by John Le Carrė. The plot uses an old case as a device to bring us into the past and at the same time explain how current events were shaped by the aftermath of this old operation gone pear-shaped. Could you see doing something similar with Rebus and Big Ger?
