Bitten
question
Bitten the book vs Bitten the tv show: Do you like the way the show is telling the story?

I like the show but I don't know if I like the changes from the book to the show. I know it can't be exactly the same as the book, but some of the actors just don't do it for me. I love the books, so I can't give up on the show just yet. What do you guys think?

Has anyone been watching season 2? I actually liked the second book and subsequent Otherworld books much more than I liked Bitten, and I'm pretty disappointed with the season 2. Fine, change the storyline, but at least keep the essence of the characters! I don't like what they've done with Paige and Ruth.
SPOILERS: Seriously, Paige is getting together with a Nicky? What about Lucas?? And really, witches kill their baby boys, whether in the womb or after birth, to avoid a horrible prophecy? REALLY?? My husband is getting annoyed with my commentary during shows, so I need someone else to commisserate with!

I enjoyed this book series; however, it was a while ago that I read it. So the TV series for me is great, because it's hitting all the key points that I can remember. I think if was currently reading or had read the books recently I wouldn't enjoy the TV series as much.
I enjoy the TV series but it's a guilty pleasure and not super well-done. Definitely dumbed down and made more conventional by the writers. While I've grown used to the Elena they've cast, I find her to be a bit too young and not scarred enough by her life. Jeremy is less a taciturn but understanding loner and more of a cold fish. Clay loses his southern drawl and is more personable - not enough of a brooder who finds it difficult to communicate or live among humans. There weren't enough scenes in wolf-form, which is a real shame.
Despite all that, it's an enjoyable enough show (I stumbled across it on Netflix). I liked Marsden's character even though it wasn't true to the source, and the recurring enemy looks to be a bit more compelling than in the Otherworld books. So it's a mixed bag, but fun all the same.

I'm trying really, really hard to enjoy the series and I get really excited when I see more and more characters getting pulled from the book into the show. That part always makes me really happy. Their take on the characters never really bothered me so much aside from Jeremy not being half-japanese like he is supposed to be and Clayton not having his greek-god looks with curly hair and a southern drawl which allows him to bring out his cynical smile and playful laughter on how he is the local psychopath. He still looks like a movie star without trying so I learned to adapt, I just wish he would be more playful and cynical like he is in the books. I also dislike this serious Logan, he was much more upbeat in the books. I have learned to live with all this though. What really gets me though is that they screw up the storyline way too much! I understood from the moment they decided to not kill off Logan it would be their interpretation which is sad but it might be for the best as it adds suspense.
S1 *SPOILERS*: Killing off Antonio got me fuming and taking a long needed break from the show and I was debating even watching the second season when they not only managed to give Jeremy's life more hell SOMEHOW, but also screwed up the chance to take on Frostbitten's storyline with killing off Stillwell where the pack was to finally recuperate from loosing all their pack members. Keeping Logan on is also making the show more young-adult centered when it is supposed to display characters from multiple points in life. Which I suppose they still do a little bit.
My main concern in season 2 is understanding the male witch storyline? I seriously am hoping he turns out to be a half demon or something similarly to how they discover Leah is one and how she was responsible for all they blamed Savannah for in the novel. This male witch storyline won't do simply because it negates the ongoing feud between sorcerers and witches storyline from the book which means no Cabal, no Lucas, no Nasts and no Kristof. Also, with their lack of Supernatural Council involvement, does this mean Adam, Cassandra, and Aaron won't be a part of the storyline? Are they limiting the supernatural types down to two? Because that would have me fuming. Why are the witches contacting the dead? Also sorcerers need to exist because Savannah being half witch and half sorcerer is what makes her so powerful. I feel like they are just picking whichever characters they like, throwing them in the series and going with whatever storyline they feel like, ignorant to all the future storylines they are messing up. I was wondering how they were going to keep the storyline centered on the wolves when the book series goes off with other supernatural types multiple times. Also... why is Clay suddenly caring about his past life as a human? And why isn't he throwing a tantrum that Elena is locked up somewhere he can't get to? I expect him to still run ahead and kill guards off one by one like the bad ass he is in the book.

It's okay but I feel like the plots tend to drag a big. I'm also tiring of Elena. I was never the biggest fan or her. The first season was fine but the second season once they bring the witches in....I was pretty disappointed. I get having to change things but I was really unhappy what they did with Paige.
*Spoilers* Her and Nick? No. Just no. Also hated how much it seemed like Elena was the only one who cared about Savannah. I know in the books Paige and Savannah's relationship is strained but Paige still cares and loves her. In this show she barely seems to think about her. It's always Elena coming to the rescue or saying that they can't kill Savannah.

The series was a disappointment for me. Clayton's actor really didn't do it for me :/
Hello, I have watched the series and now Ifound out about the books (I know veeerrrrry late to the party). Can someone tell me if the relationship between clay and elena is like in the series? As readers do we "see" them get back together and let them grow together?
thanks for ur help :)
thanks for ur help :)
I liked both, but there were issues I had with the show that were superior in the books in terms of the storyline.
Just stumbled on the series in Netflix. I did not like the casting for Elena, Clay and Jeremy much but I was starting to get used to them. But now they killed Antonio? WTF?! I do not think I will continue.
I adore the books. I own the entire series. I decided to give the tv show a try. The book starts off with her writing and she starts feeling the itch of the change but doesnt want to alert her boyfriend of her leaving. The tv show opens with her having sex and suddenly stops and gets up to leave. I shut it off after that. If it starts off with an unnecessary sex scene it wont be good.
I watched the first episode and got super annoyed immediately.... couldn't continue it. Maybe one day if I'm feeling a little masochistic, I'll endure it. Lol, no but really I'm the type to only watch film versions of books I read, not so much to see IF they screwed it up, more or less HOW BAD. It's one of those, "Maybe if I hadn't read the book" shows.
Arghhhhhhhh
I can't get used to the show at all. It's been 14 years since I first read this series but I've read them so many times.
Spoilers below
I'm only just to where they have just killed off Antonio, which has made me really mad, also Logan dies a 3rd way through the first book so I'm confused as to why they've chosen to make him a big character. Especially one with a girlfriend and baby on the way :/
Laura VanderVoort is a good actress but she's just not a bit like what Elena is described like in the book, too girly, hair always perfect. But I suppose tv always has to make the main characters sex symbols to attract viewers.
And WHERE ARE THE SEXUAL TENSION AND SEX SCENES BETWEEN ELENA AND CLAY!?!?!
their relationship and how they're drawn to each other no matter what are a massive main part of the books plot!
Not ever going to like this show but I'm going to try and finish the season just to see how they run with it.

Apparently season 3 is the last. It is just as well to put the series out of it's misery. It is really to bad that the TV series did not follow the books more closely. Season 1 was good but season 2 completely changed the story. Any time fans want to see a book series adapted to tv/movie they want it to be largely the same. Some will be upset be even minor changes but almost all of them will be upset if the story becomes almost completely unrecognizable from the books it was supposedly adapted from. In season 2 it is almost to the point that they are just using a few characters for name recognition. The changes that were made completely obliterate the story where the remaining books are concerned since Scorers are key to the story line.
It would have been better it this TV series had no link to the books. Most likely it would have been better liked.

Here here, scott! I mean I thought I would have been happy with the witches coming in. And they took some stuff from Stolen. But this current season h

I began watching the show having not read the book. It took a while for me to get into the show, but I'm glad that I stuck with it and also started reading the book (which is fantastic, btw). The show on its own was difficult at first, with the back and forth between NY and Toronto and the introduction of so many characters all at once. But I am definitely hooked.
I like Logan's storyline in the show, and the pack dynamics. I love the chemistry between Elena and Clay. I don't mind that they are deviating from the book, I think it is working so far.

I found it to be pretty entertaining. I can see the potential that the show sets up for, but they should have do more of the flash backs during the first show because I think people who don't know the history may not get some of the relationships specially the one who hasn’t read the books (like me) but I'll still be watching all of them and I am pretty sure I'll enjoy it.
I read the books a long time ago; however, I remember enough to know that I don't like the changes. I know stuff has to change, but mainly the only thing the same are the names. Some of their personalities are different. People I respected more I don't in the tv show. It's just as bad as True Blood.
I like the books well enough. And same for the show. Just given the pacing of both the books and the show, I think a lot of key points get lost in translation. But yea, once you start seeing the book world and the show world as two different entities, then it's pretty good seeing how the show plays out.
Heck, I even like how Philip is turning out more than any of the other characters. Cause if I'm honest, I barely recall him at all from Bitten the book. Save for when Elena changed in front of him and then they left and went back to Stone Haven for good. So it's good to see how things are changing around.

I loved the books! And I am really enjoying the tv show, but there are something's about it that seem to be was to different. But that happens to every book that turns into tv or movie, true blood is a good example! I hope that bitten doesn't go as bad as true blood did!
I was disappointed with the actor that was cast to play Karl Marsten! He just doesn't seem like the right person, same with Jeremy! But they did extremely well with picking Laura Vandervoort as Elena!! But overall I feel that the tv show is pretty good!! I hope they renew it for a second season!

I love the way they're telling the story, even though it's diverging from the books quite a bit at this point. I adore Laura Vandervoort and was quite happy when she was cast as Elena.
I think it's easier to enjoy if you view it as a take on the characters/world and don't expect it to mirror the books.

I think that even though the show is not exactly the same as the books, it does capture the overall essence of the book.
SO SO SO Late to this discussion. HOWEVER, I just found this on Netflix and thought I would give it a go. My Gawd, I had to go back to look at my review of Bitten. I hated Elena then and the series definitely went that same route. I am just on the second episode and I think I'm going to quit. This is terrible.
