Rachael Bell-Irving Inspiration can come from anything that makes you ask 'what if'. I've had inspiration come from dreams, from historical figures or events, and even from a tik tok or two. Anything that makes you wonder what the story could be is the starting point for the story of your own.
Rachael Bell-Irving I would love to spend a day at Camp Half Blood and learn the basics of how to kick butt! Or I would go sight seeing in Red London
Rachael Bell-Irving I love that she is a smart fighter (when she doesnt doubt herself). She is able to think through a problem, use her opponents strength against them, and doesnt let her pride get in the way. She isnt satisfied just standing still and knows there is always more to learn and improve.
Rachael Bell-Irving Often times I will try and tackle a different part of the project. Usually I get stuck in transitions, when I am trying to write the bridge between two major plot points. So if I am stuck, I will instead focus on writing a different part of the book, brainstorming other plot points, character developments arcs, or start a completely new story entirely. I also find changing my location can be helpful. Often times you just need to get something on the page to get the wheels turning again, and that's the hardest part.
Rachael Bell-Irving For me, it's the creative outlet and escape. I started writing when I was young because I had an overactive imagination - writing gave me a way to channel all of those ideas. I love being able to step into another world and explore.
Rachael Bell-Irving Keep reading. Reading improves your writing. Then you have to keep writing. A story, especially a first draft, doesn't have to be good - it just has to be written. Sometimes you will start an idea, leave it for a year, and then come back to it later. Allow it to happen and remember that no idea is a bad idea and no idea is set in stone.
Rachael Bell-Irving I am currently working on the finishing touches of the first draft for Book 6 (yes there are 6 books!)
Rachael Bell-Irving I have always wanted to write a story about magic, and in a burst of creativity I wrote the first chapter of Demons, almost exactly as it is in the book now. Reading that back, I felt a connection to the characters and continued to build the world from there. It is all thanks to Jessica and Damien's initial confrontation that started it all.
