Goodreads asked Janice Dembosky:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Janice Dembosky Take creative writing courses to hone your skills. Be teachable. Don't think you have nothing to learn. Approach writing less as narration and more as creating scenes to play out on the screen of the reader's mind. I also learned the hard way that, although I taught English and am confident with handling the English language, the great TYPO TERROR is always nearby. You can't proof-read your own work. Your eye will fix your mistakes because your brain remembers what you intended. Find an excellent proof-reader and feed it to him/her ten chapters at a time. And swear him/her to secrecy!
