Talking to the Dead Halloween Ritual
Halloween – dress up - dress down to the bone, it’s all for amusement, right?
Not if you follow some ancient beliefs about this special celebration. In ancient times Halloween (Holy Eve or All Hallows) and the days following November 1st - All Saints’ Day - November 2nd - All Soul’s Day or Day of the Dead, were more than fun; it was a sacred time of the year for people such as the Celts to honor their elderly, ancestors and dead. Festivities and rituals of these three days can be found in Celtic paganism history and later Catholicism holydays combined pagan beliefs with saints. In the Celtic pagan tradition it was thought that the veils between the two worlds - the living and dead - thinned so that spirits of the dead could float through or walk the earth to visit their living relatives. Then they crossed back over to the “underworld”.
During the spirits’ visit spooky things happened, as you can imagine. The living would dress-up in hopes that some spirits wouldn’t recognize and haunt them. But if they wanted the spirits to visit they would invite them with a similar ritual below.
To connect with the spirits of your loved ones to say hello and/or ask a question do this beautiful sacred ritual.
Gather: Pen (perhaps a favorite color) and paper
Flower – any kind
Photo of deceased
Incense – pleasant plus helps create a mood
Candles – white, black and orange – white – clear visions, black - spiritual unknown and orange for season and color of renewal
Burning vessel – ashtray or cauldron and matches
Glass or bowl of water – signifies the other world and also can douse any fire mishaps.
Sweet & beverage – Symbolic gesture for visiting spirit guests
Table or clothe on floor – to lay the above upon.
Chair - optional
Or you can do it simply by lighting a white candle, place it in a window along with a treats and add a chair for a spirit to sit and visit. Remember to snuff candle before leaving the room for the night.
For a few minutes quiet your self, then say, ‘Only good can enter herein.’ Perhaps add a prayer to the Divine to bring forth healing, loving energies to you and protect you from negative fearful thoughts and/or energies. After all it is Halloween and negative energies/entities can roam free along with your loved ones’ spirits.
Next - make a list of all of those who have passed, and how they affected your life. I write thanking my departed loved ones for all they gave me - love - support etc and to my ancestors for bestowing blessings upon me such as the abilities and talents that help me living fully.
You can fold the paper, keep it overnight and bury in earth or burn it while performing your ritual. As the paper burns it turns to smoke rising up and is symbolic for sending your thought to the mental psychic airwaves. Doing either is ‘mailing your message’.
Peer into the water, relax and connect to the psychic mind - perhaps an image will form or a memory will be recalled. After that, invite your spirits to visit by taking your white candle, sweets and beverage to a window so as they walk the earth they will see the light and recognize you (home.)
Stay as long as you like, thinking of your loved ones, talking to her and him. If you hear, think or sense a message was given, take note it for later examination. Or, after your ritual (remember to snuff the candles and incense), you might dream about the spirits, as this is an easier way for them to communicate.
Spirits often can’t get through to their loved ones because the grief is so strong. To your best ability, endeavor to be calm, upbeat and peaceful. You might get a message for another (relative or friend). If you do, share it.
Spirit communication is often stronger when conducted in a group - even two people - so perhaps a relative and/or friend might want to do this ritual with you to share in the experience.
Wishing you a merry frolicking good time and a cauldron full of blessings.

Talking to the Dead-Gift or Curse?
I just watched the movie Hereafter with Matt Damon as George, a retired psychic medium, who is called back into service against his will. I know how he felt.
I’m one of those people who easily sees and talks to the dead––those who have passed over. In the movie George tells another how he became psychic: As a child he had become very ill and needed surgery on the back of his head. Because of it something happened in his brain resulting in him “knowing and seeing” things about people he had no prior access to and this information was told to him by dead people.
I appreciated how the scriptwriter presented a correlation between head/brain surgery and changes in one’s psychic abilities. I also had a similar experience where a head injury had awoken my psychic abilities.
When I was nineteen I was in a very serious car accident and received grave injuries to my face and head and for a moment in the ambulance I “died”. That brief moment profoundly changed the course of my life forever, although it took me years to, not only understand what happened, but talk about it openly. Like one character in Hereafter I went to the“otherside”.
The physical part in time healed but the true miracle was what happened afterward.
Within a couple of months I began to have strong premonitions, about people’s past (recognition) visions of future events (precognition) and dead people spoke to me. It was not pleasant. Heck it scared the bejeevus out of me! Not that I was new to accepting psychic occurrences. My mother had a curiosity in it, even having a few prophetic a few dreams and for fun read tealeaves, but my experiences surpassed this greatly.
One of my strong abilities is mediumship and I rather enjoy it. I’ve mostly given up giving spirit communication (aka séances) because of the physically living beings as George experienced.
Of course the dead can be an annoyance as Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) in the movie “Ghosts” learned where she was deluged by spirits all coming through (talking) at one time––it can happen like that when they find a person who can see and hear them.
Do they haunt you like Oda Mae was by the dead character Sam, Patrick Swayze? You bethca! This happened to me once. The spirit didn’t lighten up until the police contacted me for all her information (her killer was successfully prosecuted.)
There are many rewards having these abilities’ and talents. I’ve met people from all over the world and been invited to travel to share my abilities. People have told me the information I shared changed their lives. Then again there’s a downside. In the movie George says that some people say he has a gift, but he thought of it more as a curse. I can relate. The curse is seeing and knowing too much as George says.
Psychics do become tired. Its takes a lot of energy, much focus and a certain detachment as information surges through. I’ve worked with law enforcement and even the believers have a particular way that can make one feel a bit blocked. There’s the need and expectations of clients to fulfill (or not) and neediness of the people seeking help and connections to dead loved ones. Let’s not forget the testing doubters, the ridiculing critics and the condemning haters (oh yes!) of psychics.
After having used my abilities for 40 years I believe that psychic energy must retire and the person must live for her or himself. But then, like George, there’s always that one more person who truly needs that information.
In my novel, my main character has "unusual" abilities that prove to be more of a curse than a blessings.

Do Book Reviews Matter? Latest on spirit/ghost ebook

Will you chose a book based upon them?
Review of my book - four stars out of four, "How to Talk with Spirits: Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts"
"I've actually read a couple similar books in the past, but "How to Talk With Spirits" is my favorite thus far. It uses the terminology properly, but never feels condescending or confusing; it expresses strong beliefs and opinions but never tries to force them upon the reader, instead encouraging safe experimentation and making one's own judgements; it teaches without preaching.
Life after death is perhaps the greatest mystery of our lives. Reincarnation, heaven and hell, ghosts living among us, any combination of those, something we haven't even imagined or absolutely nothing at all, the possibilities are endless. "How to Talk With Spirits" by June Ahern helps answer those questions (and many more) the best way possible - by presenting the reader with information, helping them find their own answers and frequently reminding them to stay skeptical and not just believe anything, even the things in this book, simply because they're widely believed.
"How to Talk With Spirits" is a nonfiction guide for exactly what it sounds like - communicating with spirits. Spirits here typically include both spirits and ghosts (the difference, June summarizes, is essentially that ghosts are spirits that remain on Earth), but also includes the possibility of picking up messages or signals from others who are alive. The pages are filled to the brim with information equivalent to similar books double the length. Despite having so much information, the book doesn't ever feel boring - this is an insightful guide, not a dry textbook.
Before the book really kicks off, we're given an introduction that gives us a history of the author, June. In 1970, at 19 years old, she was a passenger in a vehicle during a car crash that threw her through the windshield. She sees a woman in white surrounded in light and actually died for 20 seconds. Ever since, she's been able to see and hear dead people and identify things about people without ever having met them before. Since then she's gone ghost hunting, led and been a part in seances and passed all sorts of messages to the living.
Following the introduction, the book is broken into 12 chapters, the first chapter being the longest. This chapter briefly covers a history of ghosts and then answers a wide range of frequently asked questions. These answers cover a wide spectrum of information, and while there is a bit of repetition, it's only because this portion is made in a way that the reader can read only the answers to questions they're interested in without missing anything when skipping portions. From this point forward, chapters explain about spirits and ghosts - both the good and the bad - as well as how to communicate with the good and protect oneself from the bad from preparations to best practices and creating the best, most likely situations for success. These chapters also go into details about methods for speaking with spirits alone or in different forms of seance, acting as a medium, going on ghost hunts and all sorts of other tasty tidbits of knowledge concerning spirits. As she gives information, June frequently references articles and books by other authors, as well as her own interesting experiences and even a YouTube video of one of her own ghost hunts. The last chapter is a simple ESP quiz she's created - just a handful of simple questions that will make you think about what you've seen and felt, then guides you with your results a bit.
I can't suggest it to anyone who has closed their minds to the possibility of an afterlife or being able to speak with the dead, but anyone the least bit curious or interested in the topic should give the book a read.
The book definitely deserves 4 out of 4 stars.

ORBS - SPIRITS AFLOAT OR FILM CORRUPTED?
WHITE LIGHTS - ORBSSIGN OF PARANORMAL ACTIVITY?
I have been involved in ghost hunts with a paranormal investigation group named The Haunted Bay: Paranormal SF and Beyond.
During the ghost hunt of a San Francisco landmark, The Defenestration Building (closed in July, 2014), we met a ghost of a frightened young woman dressed in only a full slip. She rushed toward me and the filming crew covered in blood. Her terror and quickness made us backpedal to get away. Most likely she was a victim of murder. Although, I was the only one who saw and heard her mentally, the others felt the tension. The woman came only so far down the long hallway then the image of her running toward us repeated. She was stuck in the time and place of her terror.
Later, the producer, Ying Liu and cinematographer, Matthew Abaya, returned with a camera to, hopefully, capture the ghost’s image. The photographs show orbits of light and flashing streaks.
The investigators thought it was inconclusive evidence because they were looking for a figure, a complete form of the woman.
For me it was proof because I’ve seen many similar photographs of spirits and ghosts taken with different cameras. This kind of white orb light or flashes of whitish light is common when photographing spirits and ghosts. It appears as though the movement of energy is captured.
One viewer of the woman in the Defenstration video commented, “...the Polaroid (photos) are spooky…a silhouette of a girl on the lower left…there is a set of legs in the middle…(in the) Fight & Murder Hall…a face staring right at the camera and the presence behind us. I don’t know if it’s a bearded man or a long-haired woman…”
Watch the video to decide for yourself if the shadows and lights are indeed an energy moving toward the camera crew. VAMPIRES, YOUR COUNTRY TOO?
Vampires stalk our world, according to storytellers. For most, Bram Stoker's book, "Dracula" was our introduction to a vampire. Nowadays, it's hard to get away from them with the surge of books and films to choose your scary experience.
I've been well aware of them since the 60's when I'd watch the television series Dark Shadows' vampire, Barnabas Collins, sleep in a coffin through the day to emerge at night seeking necks to suck. Anyone else watch it?
Seems blood gathering has been with us for quite some time. Vampire folklore has history from many countries. According to Gods & Monsters.com website vampires have a long history. On Wilipedia page the vampire, the undead, visited people and unlike our Count Dracula image of a a tall, somewhat handsome guy, the vampire "wore shrouds and were often described as bloated and of ruddy or dark countenance, markedly different from today's gaunt, pale vampire which dates from the early 19th century."
In "Dark Shadows" and most other vampire sources I've read or seen, it seems young, attractive women are the main target. (Whew! That leaves me out.)
But in Matthew Abaya's newly released award winning indie action vampire film, "Vampariah", (the Philippine version) the blood sucker is one scary female.
The film is about Mahal, who is a part of an elite squad of skilled hunters responsible for keeping the world safe from vampires and other creatures of the night. Her mission to rid the world of this undead threat becomes compromised when her fate intertwines with an aswang (a vampire of Philippine folklore).
What about your country's vampire? What is he or she called and what naughty things does that vampire cook up? Fresh blood? Followers? To find a list of vampires' names and countries see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vampires_in_folklore_and_mythology
The San Francisco premier showing will be in the historical and most delightfully haunted San Francisco's Chinatown's 1920's building know called, The Great Star Theater." The other night I investigated the theater for ghosts and vampires sightings. The history of the building is murky with one recorded suspicious death. What else did I find? My investigation film will be shown at the premier of Vampariah film on Saturday, September 3, 2016. Do join us for a spooky good time!
Matthew and I met when he filmed my ghost infestation of another historical San Francisco building. Now that was scary! Since then he's filmed three more of my ghost investigations for the Haunted Bay.
No more blood left in my house - move on vampires!

WHEN PET SPIRITS RETURN
The excerpt below will appear in the second printing of this book available by November 1, 2016. If you have purchased a copy already & wish to have the portion please message me. Also, the ESP Quiz has additional pieces.
Excerpt from"How to Talk With Spirits: Seances-Mediums-Ghost Hunts"
Chapter: One Questions from the Curious Living
June Ahern
With my over forty years experience as a psychic medium, I answered the many questions posed to me by numerous people in this chapter.
The ebook is available on Amazon.com, Smashwords.com and Barnes & Noble. com. This year it will be in paperback.
• Can pets that have passed away communicate with us?
We animal lovers dread the moment when our beloved pets––our companions––die.
We fear our pets are lost to us forever. The grief can be as powerful as when we lose a person.
Communication from a pet can be just as emotional as one with the spirit of a human loved one and the reasons we want contact with them is the same. We want to know if they made the transition okay. Are they pain free? Do they miss you like you miss them? When people ask me if pets can communicate with them after death. I assure them contact and communication with your pets can be made.
Your pet can appear to you spontaneously. It might be when you think all connection is lost as I did in my grief of my beloved dog.
I had the strangest experience (even for me, a medium) a year after my beloved pet, Phoebe, died.
She was a lovely white Standard Poodle, and
although slowed down a bit at sixteen year-old, as graceful and beautiful as ever.
Phoebe and I spent almost our time together––24/7 as it is said. She had come into my life unexpectedly when I was at a low point and taught me to trust again and be more patience and understanding. When she died and although there was another dog (came with the marriage), an adorable pit bull named Gunner, I grieved heavily the loss of Phoebe in my life. One day while walking Gunner, a tall, slender blonde woman, dressed in all white walked toward us. Later, when recounting the story, I would say she reminded me of Darryl Hannah. As the young woman passed us she smiled sweetly and said, “Don’t you know me? I’m Phoebe.” I was so stunned I continued to walk on, unable to digest what just occurred. At some point I turned to looked back and saw no one––the woman had disappeared. Could Phoebe really have returned as a human? Was she truly an angel as she had been to me in life and returned to remind me, animals spirits to live on? I choose to believe Phoebe was indeed an angel in human form that manifested as a dog to help me heal emotionally a love heartbreak. Our pets teach us so much, don’t they?
(CON'T) How to communicate with your pet advice.
My four books (two novels) are ebook and the novels, paperback also. All can be found at Amazon.com - Smashwords and Barnes & Noble. Learn more about me and my books at june ahern. My ghost investigations can be seen on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=the+haunted+bay+and+beyond

FRIENDLY GHOST or SCARY HEADLESS HORSEMAN?

Will You see Casper the Friendly Ghost or The Headless Horseman?
Excerpt from Chapter 2, Questions From the Curious Living in my book, How to Talk With Spirits: Séances•Mediums•Ghost Hunts

I’ve heard you talk about spirits and ghosts. Is there a difference?
To me there is a difference. Although a ghost is the spirit or energy of a person, it has not gone onto a place of peaceful rest. Rather it lingers on Earth reliving the same scene over and over long after it has left the physical body.
They are stuck in time and space and the aspects of their deaths. Ghost (and spirits too) can be a floating white wisp of a cloud or a bolt of energy shooting along a darkened corridor. Since ghosts aren’t able to let go of the physical plane they appear to more people than spirits do.

Then again there are some spirits who just liked their earth time and decide to stay for whatever reason they believe is right. I encountered one such ghost in an alley in San Francisco Barbary Coast district.
A couple of my own ghost stories ended rather well. Both were murder victims. Many years ago before I became truly involved with, or understood, my medium abilities, I encountered a young woman named Sandy (not her real name) who was murdered execution style. Sandy’s untimely death only informed me she was shot.

CHINATOWN SAN FRANCISCO GHOST WALK

This ghost hunt preceded Matthew Abaya's scary (and sometimes funny) Indie film, "Vamparah" debuting at the city's Chinatown's historical building, The Great Star Theatre. The history alone, albeit the paranormal activity, is infamous and famous - suspicious death, gambling, and lots of drama plus Chinese opera.
The inside is old. Funky - original seats, stage curtains, old haunted bathroom, but excellent to get 'that feel' - know what I mean?
Come along with me and others as we encounter paranormal activity. Youtube: https://youtu.be/coyG_KTb9YY via @YouTube

A bit about the history.

Perfect read for All Hallows Eve coming up! Followed by Day of The Dead.Great Ritual for that time included in book along with an ESP Quiz.Read excerpt of ritual below:* * *
HALLOWEEN, A SPOOKY good time and all for amusement, right?
The night is much more than just for fun. All Hallows Eve or Halloween and November First, are sacred times for many throughout the world to honor the dead. The Celts and Mexicans honor their elderly, ancestors, and the dead with special rituals and celebrations on those days. The Catholic Church combined the pagan beliefs with their own to create a day to honor the saints on November first. Celtic pagans believed the veils between the two worlds of the living and dead thinned or dropped so spirits could walk the earth to visit their living relatives before crossing back over to the “underworld.”
The spirits were not only our loved ones, but also all spirits who want to walk the earth, feel alive and connected to the living.
During the spirits’ visit, spooky things happened, as you can imagine. The Celts disguised themselves to waylay troublesome or evil spirits so they wouldn’t recognize and haunt people. Tradition warned people, especially the elderly, the sick and the young, to stay safely hidden inside so they wouldn’t be grabbed and taken to the underworld. This is a good time to invite spirits you want to visit your home. You can prepare for visiting spirits with these two welcoming rituals. One is more elaborate and the other simple. You can do all or a bit of each. Design a ritual to best suit your interest and need. No matter which you choose to do, both are a lovely way to remember your loved ones and feel their presence.
Before it is dark on Halloween get a photograph of the deceased you would like to visit and a pen in perhaps their favorite color. You’ll also need paper, flowers and incense of your choice. Also gather white, black and orange candles. The white candle is for protection and to receive clear visions.
The black candle is for the mystical, spiritual unknown, and the orange one for the season’s color of renewal. Have a burning vessel (ashtray or cauldron,) matches to light your incense and candles, and a full lipped glass or bowl of water.

TRANSITION PHYSICAL TO SPIRIT TO UNIVERSE
I AM NOT THERE. I AM IN THE SKY, THE STARS...
Excerpt from my ebook, "How to Talk with Spirits: Seances, Mediums, Ghost Huntsby June Ahern
I'm a lucky author! Three five star Amazon reviews in one day for my books, How to Talk to Spirit and The Timeless Counselor.
This is to be included in my second edition, both ebook and paperback, January 2017.
Chapter 4Afterlife
I learned more about what transition of the spirit from communication with my sister who died in 2010 than from any book. About the fourth year after her death I called on her by name. She took a couple of days to respond and told me she no longer was known by that name. She didn’t tell me what name to call her other than “sister”. In late 2015 she awoke me in the early hours of the to give me a message. It was information I never knew about spirit transformation. My sister showed me how her entire being as I had known her that is the physical person I knew, had separated into energetic cells. The cells appeared like sparks of light or little shooting stars. They integrated with all matter in the sky––the entire universe. There was a sense, not words or images, that my sister was everywhere in nature. She had become The All. It was awe-inspiring. To the very core of my own cells, I experienced the power and vision of The All Divine. What my sister expressed through thought and images reminded me of the bereavement poem, Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep, by Mary Frye (1931). In it Ms. Fry asks those grieving her not stand at her grave and weep for she is not there, she does not sleep. Further in the poem she says where her spirit will be found:
I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glint on snow.I am the sunlight on ripened grain.I am the gentle autumn rain. When you wake in the morning hush,I am the swift, uplifting rushOf quiet birds in circling flight.I am the soft starlight at night.Do not stand at my grave and weep.I am not there, I do not sleep.
Along with the new spiritual awareness my sister gave me she also revealed in time her cells would reunite coming back (reincarnate) into form known to us as the physical body. This new body would be made up of renewed energy within the DNA, that being healthier cells. Her spirit will also be a new energy along with new karma. (to be cont'd)
