BITTER MEMORIES, the LIES (part 3)

Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival
True Story of a little girl (me) kidnapped by her father, living a life on the run, hungry, abused and terrified...

I don’t even know if Daddy knew how to tell the truth. His whole life consisted of one lie after the other, but two of the biggest lies told to me were:
1) I’ll never hurt you
2) I’ll never leave you
Daddy did both of these, many, many times.

Of course, the first time he hurt me was by kidnapping me, but compared to the other hurts over the years, the kidnapping was nothing! He hurt me by yelling at me, something he never did until after the kidnapping, and he backhanded me a few times, also something he’d never done to me before running off with me.

He knocked Mama around, a lot, but with me, the few months before he took me from my bed in the middle of the night, he just acted like he hated me…like he wished I’d never been born. That hurt, deeply, but even that didn’t hurt as much as what happened the time we stopped at a motel…

Other books in this series — creative non-fiction/crime fiction:
Trophy Murders is not only an action-packed pure fiction crime story, but I take you deeper into the journey of true events after going to live with Uncle Henry (the cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life I wouldn’t wish on any kid!

Cutter's Revenge continues my story after my adoption. While another fictionalized serial killer stalks our little town, I write my story the way it could have been if...turning my life into a fantastic, exciting, and happy ending!

My Newest Book — non-fiction:
From The Heart is a collection of fifteen poems written from events in my life, including short stories that inspired the writing of each poem. This book is also available in audio with Beth MacEwan narrating. She did a fantastic job bringing life to each poem and story. It is awesome!

NOTE: Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival is NOT a cozy, feel-good book. It's a true story of extreme child abuse and my struggle to survive. It contains strong language and heartbreaking content, but it was my life. The language is toned down in the other books in this trilogy, and the abuse isn't nearly as intense or as often, and tossing in the serial killers does make for a very exciting (even a bit twisted and sadistic) read.

All these books are based on or from events in my life and have received 4 and 5 star reviews. If you still need a gift this Christmas, or would just like a new read for yourself, please consider one or all of my books. Thanks, and Enjoy!

MEMORIES - TROPHIES - REVENGE

A few things you may or may not know:

Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival, the first in the “bitter memories” series, was 40+ years writing. It was as hard, if not harder, to write than it is to read, but it is a story that needed to be told. No one likes to admit children are abused, but they are. Child abuse is a national epidemic and the only way to put an end to the abuse is by me, and many more like me, telling our stories so more and more people will be aware of child abuse and the symptoms a child shows when they have been abused. I appreciate everyone who has read, and everyone who will read, my books. Through awareness and others spreading the word can we bring an end to other children being abused. As a survivor of extreme child abuse, and it doesn’t take extreme to mess up a kid’s head, I need as many caring souls as I can find to help save other kids from the scars of abuse — from a life similar to what I endured. The book contains adult language that will put a sailor to shame and graphic adult content.

Trophy Murders, second in the series, started out to be more of a short story about “trophies” of catfish heads stuck on a post. However, it soon took off in another direction, giving focus to a gang of serial killers wreaking havoc on a small Texas town. My story continues in this book as I struggle with recurring nightmares and problems at school, while still trying to cope with my past plus my controlling “beat the meanness out of her” aunt. It seems most everyone doesn’t want to be friends with a kid whose uncle is a cop (true), but in this book he’s not just a cop. He’s the chief of police who happens to be keeping his own secrets about many things, including the truth about my mother’s death. Throughout the book some of these secrets are revealed, throwing in different kinds of “trophies” and a fiery car crash for one heck of a ride.

Cutter’s Revenge, third in the series, brings a man believing he has amnesia, a sadistic serial killer, and more secrets revealed. This book was fun to write while it provided me with the perfect opportunity to get “revenge” against at least one or two people who made my life hell. Although pure fiction on the revenge it does make for a pulse-pounding thriller, bringing closure to this part of my life in a way that is pleasing, not only to me, but also my readers. Be ready for sit-on-the-edge-of-the-chair excitement, listening for strange noises and things that go bump in the night. Enter Cutter’s world — If you dare!

Book 4 in the series is untitled because it is yet to be written. However, I expect, like the other three books in this series, this book will take on a life of its own before finished as I delve more into my involvement with my mother’s alcoholic sister and also my big brother who, in the other books I had not yet met. I don’t work from an outline, and since I sure don’t plan ahead what’s going to be written, this is all I can tell for now. As events come to me, I write.

From The Heart: A Collection of Poems and Stories, is a book written from low points in my life while searching for peace. It seems I can’t write poetry unless depressed, but the poems are thoughtful, not depressing. They are actual feelings from these times with short stories about what inspired each poem. Truly written “from the heart” I expose feelings never shared with another person until this book. Also available in audio — and to hear my written words spoken by Beth MacEwan who narrated — is totally awesome! I highly recommend the audio for a breathtaking experience.

You can find all these books on my website with links to order from Amazon, plus a “like” button for Facebook to click on, too! Please stop by and have a look around.

Uncensored Memories

NOTE: Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival is NOT a cozy, feel-good book. It is a true story of extreme child abuse and my struggle to survive. It contains adult language to put a sailor to shame and heartbreaking graphic content. This story was my life.

Although unnerving, Bitter Memories is a gripping account of the extremes a child can undergo—and survive. Written from the heart, taking on a life of its own, I relived those memories of heartache, sadness, extreme hunger, and intense fear in hopes of helping other adult survivors find a path toward healing their “hidden” scars.

My story deals with explosive topics that former child victims of mental, physical, and sexual violence will understand, but in order to help other child abuse survivors I had to tell my story, uncensored.

I had to talk about all those bad things that happened to me as a child after being kidnapped by my father, living a life on the run, hungry, abused, and terrified.

While writing this book I had to actually relive years of feelings and all the sorrow felt so I could deal with my own heartbreaking, painful memories that had kept me in a mental prison of hell for so long.

I managed to do it because I am a survivor! From this book came three more in the series, listed below with a very short bit about each one.

I am currently working on the fourth in the series; dedicating book four to my brother.

Book 1 - non-fiction:
Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival is the true story of my life after being kidnapped by my father, then for six years living a life on the run, hungry, abused and terrified...so terrified that I split into multiple personalities in order to survive...strong adult language and content. VERY graphic!

Book 2 - creative non-fiction/crime fiction:
Trophy Murders delves into my vivid “where did that come from” imagination to deliver an action-packed crime story about a gang of serial killers; mixing in more truth as I continue the journey after going to live with Uncle Henry (the cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life, by the way, I wouldn’t wish on any kid!

Book 3 - psychological thriller/crime fiction:
Cutter’s Revenge brings a man believing he has amnesia, a sadistic serial killer, and more secrets revealed. This book was fun to write while it provided me with the perfect opportunity to get “revenge” against a few who made my life hell. Mixing truth with a ton of suspense to get the heart racing, my imagination runs as rampant as the stalking serial killer bringing terror around every turn! Although pure fiction on the revenge it does make for a pulse-pounding, sit-on-the-edge-of-the-chair thriller. You’ll be listening for strange noises and things that go bump in the night should you — Enter Cutter’s World...

Trophy Murders and Cutter's Revenge are loaded with action, suspense, drama, secrets, a love story, and so much more. And, my fictional crimes are a bit twisted and sadistic. I hope you’ll enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing these two books.

Book 4 - memoir (currently being written)
After Midnight is the title I've decided on. This book continues parts of my story left out from the other books in the bitter memories series, and I expect, like the other three books, this one will also take on a life of its own before finished. After Midnight delves more into my involvement with my mother’s alcoholic sister and also my big brother who, in the other books I had not yet met. This is all I can tell until finished.

Book 5 - non-fiction (not part of the bitter memories series)
From The Heart: A Collection of Poems and Stories, is a book written from low points in my life while searching for peace. It seems I can’t write poetry unless depressed, but my poems are thoughtful, not depressing. They are actual feelings from these times with short stories about what inspired each poem. Truly written “from the heart” I expose feelings never shared with another person until this book. Also available in audio. To hear my written words spoken by Beth MacEwan who narrated is totally awesome! I highly recommend the audio for a breathtaking experience.

Excerpt From Book 1 in the Series

Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival:

It was late in the day when Janet came into my room, jerking me out of sleep. Grabbing my hair, she pulled me outside and over to the big tree.

"Since you like this fuckin' tree so much, you can eat its dirt!"

She shoved my head into a hole she'd dug near the trunk, holding the back of my head and neck tightly. The grit clawed at my face as I struggled against her grip. The damp, musty smell of the dirt pulled the breath out of me.

Trapped, unable to escape, my lungs screamed for air...

Next blog will be an excerpt from Trophy Murders, Book 2 where I continue my story after going to live with Uncle Henry (a cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life, by the way, I wouldn’t wish on any kid. Trophy Murders also includes an action-packed crime story about a gang of serial killers (straight from my vivid imagination) as my uncle tries to bring solace back to our small little town.

EXCERPT From BOOK 2 in the Series

Trophy Murders, Book 2 delves into my vivid imagination to deliver an action-packed crime story about a gang of serial killers; mixing in truth as I continue my journey after going to live with Uncle Henry (the cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life, by the way, I wouldn’t wish on any kid!
Loaded with action, suspense, drama, secrets, a love story, and so much more, my fictional crimes are a bit twisted and sadistic. I hope you enjoy reading Trophy Murders as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Excerpt, Book 2:

Lavonya got a scared look on her face and started backing away. “You’re doing it again, Sarah! Your voice, your face! Are you gonna hit me?”
“Why would you say that?”
“Look at your hands, Sarah! You’re making fists like you want to knock my head into next week.”
Again, Sarah didn’t have a clue what had happened and looked at Lavonya with a blank stare.
“Look at your hands, Sarah!” she screamed. “If you’re gonna hit me, just do it and get it over with!” Her voice became high and hysterical. She looked so scared.
Looking down, Sarah saw her knuckles had turned white from such a tight fist. Releasing her grip, she relaxed her hands, wondering what had made her do that in the first place.

Next blog will be an excerpt from Cutter’s Revenge, Book 3 where I continue my story after my adoption, mixing truth with a ton of suspense to get the heart racing as my imagination runs as rampant as the stalking serial killer bringing terror around every turn! Using many of the same characters, I introduce several new ones — many you’ll love, some you’ll love to hate.

Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival, Book 1 is the true story of my life after being kidnapped by my father, then for six years living a life on the run, hungry, abused and terrified...so terrified that I split into multiple personalities in order to survive...VERY graphic!

EXCERPT From BOOK 3 in the Series

Cutter’s Revenge, Book 3 continues my story after my adoption, mixing truth with a ton of suspense to get the heart racing as my imagination runs as rampant as the stalking serial killer bringing terror around every turn! Poppy tells me people are disappearing and warns me about a maniac, a killer in our mist. When I meet a handsome stranger and consider running away with him, I wonder if he could be the man Poppy had warned me about. Enter Cutter’s Sadistic World...If you Dare!

Excerpt, Book 3:

Thinking of going away—running away—with this guy intrigued me, but I didn’t know him, and I’d never seen him around town or at school before.
“Poppy said a maniac was in the area and people were disappearing,” I whispered. “Maybe Stan’s the guy Poppy told me about.”
The rest of the day my thoughts kept drifting back to Stan with the dark, wavy hair, dazzling blue eyes, a beautiful smile, and a body to die for.
“He didn’t look like a maniac.”
Walking home from school, I’d almost made up my mind, but then, not feeling totally comfortable about it all, I decided to sleep on it. Still talking to myself, I tried to convince myself of a reason not to go away with Stan…

MY STORY

Kidnapped when I was 3 years old by a man who was supposed to love me and protect me, I lived a life on the run, hungry, abused, and terrified for the next 6 long years. From my own father, to his twin brother and his 3 sons, to an evil stepmother, I experienced things no child should ever have to endure.

The horrific things done to me damaged me in so many ways. After years of therapy, and a few close friends who stood by me, I managed to climb out of my shell and write my story. Although this isn’t a feel-good book, and the language is just as horrific as the things I lived through, this was my life.

I write about a subject so many do not want to admit exists, but believe me, child abuse does exist! There are so many kids who are abused daily, either sexually, physically and/or mentally. In my case, I suffered all of these forms of abuse, and by telling my own personal story I have helped many other survivors find a path toward healing their pain.

Reliving my own scars of abuse has given hope to so many still suffering, and this alone makes reliving those nightmares worth it.

You can find out more about my story on my website. There are currently 3 books in the series: Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival, Trophy Murders, and Cutter’s Revenge. The last two books continue my story, but to give my readers a bit of a break, I mix in fictional crimes that my uncle, the police chief, has to solve.

My uncle has his own “secrets” that he’s kept locked inside over the years, but I begin to expose these secrets in each book. I’d known for years he had a mistress, but what I didn’t know finally came out when I sat down with my uncle and his new mistress to talk. Very enlightening, to say the least!

Check it out and pick up your copies before the 4th in the series comes out later this year!

YOU MAY NOT KNOW…

If you’ve been following my blog, or following me on Facebook, LinkedIn, plus other social media sites, then you already know I'm the author of the bestselling Bitter Memories series that used to be called a “trilogy.” I'm in the process of writing the fourth, turning the trilogy into a series.

Currently the first three books are available on Amazon as e-books. Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival and Trophy Murders were available in paperback, and you may still be able to buy them from Amazon and other retailers, but only until their stock runs out.

I suggest, if you really want the paperback, wait until I get them redone and on CreateSpace! The price will be cheaper!

The reason for this change is because I finally fired the publisher I had used on those first two books. With the second book I got sick and tired of the hassles and having to constantly fight to have my books done my way!

However, Bitter Memories will be back in paperback very soon, with an awesome new cover! Just waiting for the back of the cover to be finished and it will be ready to go.

The cover of Trophy Murders will also be redone, and back in paperback as soon as the new cover art is completed.

I haven’t decided about the cover of Cutter’s Revenge yet. Leave it as is, or redo it? I like parts of the current cover, but I feel it could be so much better. I guess I’ll just have to talk with my artist and friend, Gary McCluskey, and see what he thinks about it. By the way, Gary is the artist of the new artwork for Bitter Memories!

As I said, the 4th in the series will be coming later this year. I do plan on Gary doing all these covers, so be ready for AWESOMENESS, both inside and outside each book!

Bitter Memories (Book 1) isn't a feel-good book, but it is the true story of my life after being kidnapped at 3 years old by my father, then living a life on the run, hungry, abused and terrified.

The language is raw, the content is graphic, but there is no way to sugarcoat child abuse. The majority of reviews have been 5-star, but many of my readers have told me that they felt every emotion possible while reading, and they could not put it down!

The other books in the series continues my story after my mother's death (Trophy Murders, Book 2) and after my adoption by my mother's brother, a cop, and his heavy-handed wife (Cutter’s Revenge, Book 3). Readers also say they cannot put these books down, either!

In these two books I do lighten things up a bit and include fictionalized murders for my uncle (the cop) to solve, plus there’s a love story or two, and my fictional serial killer/s will get your heart racing.

The 4th, titled After Midnight, will continue parts left out from the other three, bringing out what my readers and fans have been waiting for --I talk about my big brother!

I also have a non-fiction book of poetry and short stories that inspired each poem. These poems come from different times in my life while searching for peace from my past. Cover artist on this book is Barbara Pack. It's also available in audio, and this version is totally awesome! Beth McEwan narrated.

You can find out more about me and my books on my website:

http://sj2448.wix.com/suejulsen

Still showing the current covers of the series. From The Heart: A Collection of Poems and Stories will not be changing.

Book Descriptions + One Review for Each and a SURPRISE Coming!

Short clips about my books, including one review for each and the amazon link for the Kindle Edition:PLUS an upcoming surprise is hidden somewhere in this post.

Bitter Memories, Book 1 - non-fiction:
Is the true story of my life after being kidnapped by my father, then for six years living a life of hell while on the run, hungry, abused and terrified...so terrified that I split into multiple personalities in order to survive...Bitter Memories is not a feel-good book. The language is raw, the content is graphic, but there is no way to sugarcoat child abuse.

I was referred to this book by my daughter. Whom encouraged me that it was time to start my healing process I had put off all of my life. As a child I had been abused myself. She purchased this book for me. The moment I started reading it I knew the pain Sue had described was extremely real. The best part about it was she did not sugar coat anything! She told it like it was not how people wanted it. She did use colorful words in which may have offended some but from personal experience there is nothing clean that runs through your mind when things like this are being done to you as a child! Sue used real life feelings, thoughts and emotions. That IS what you call a true story! When you tell it like it REALLY happened. For other people like me, you can relate to it and learn from what she did to get through this traumatic event! And seeing she had became the most amazing person in the end shows people like me that there IS HOPE, weather the abuse was as serious as Sue's or even mild cases which mine now seems now that I have read her TRUE story. For others who haven't been abused, it allows you to understand what its like. And to set an example of what was over looked in her life and that others don't make the same mistake. We all look for books that can really reach out and grab us, something we can relate to and ultimately let you feel everything the characters felt. This book does all of these things and soo much more! If you haven't had the pleasure of reading it then you need to!

Trophy Murders, Book 2 - creative non-fiction/crime fiction:
Delves into my vivid where did that come from imagination to deliver an action-packed crime story about a gang of serial killers; mixing in more truth as I continue the journey after going to live with Uncle Henry (the cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life I wouldn’t wish on any kid!

Author Sue Julsen continues her story in this second of her three book series.
The characters draw you into their lives as the drama "on the hill" is told. It is a masterpiece of intrigue, mystery, and passion.
Sue maintains her gift as a talented author, using details to illustrate the story so that the reader is drawn into the story, feeling the emotions on each turn of the pages.

Definitely another book you cannot put down once you start to read it!

Sue's message of raising awareness of neglect and abuse is heartfelt. Through her books she is reaching out to others to continue this message.

Cutter’s Revenge, Book 3 - (Bitter Memories) psychological thriller/crime fiction:
Brings a man believing he has amnesia, a sadistic psychopath, and more family secrets are revealed. This book was fun to write while it provided me with the perfect opportunity to get “revenge” against a few who made my life hell. Mixing truth with enough suspense to get the heart racing, my imagination runs as rampant as the stalking killer who brings terror around every turn! Although pure fiction on the revenge it does make for a pulse-pounding crime thriller. You just might find yourself listening for strange noises and things that go bump in the night when you enter Cutter’s Sadistic World...

I knew I wouldn't be disappointed! From the moment I saw the picture on the cover of the book, I knew I had to get started reading. The picture just begs you to open the book.
Of the three books, this is my favorite. I love to read a book that makes you want to keep reading and not put it down.
Seeing "Cutter's" victims through his eyes felt so real. I actually caught myself looking up to make sure I was in my living room and not his basement. This book is very good and you must read it. Along with the first two. The ending is brilliant! I cried, I felt horror, and I felt happy. Sue Julsen has a wonderful gift with words.
I look forward to reading whatever else she writes.

From The Heart: A Collection of Poems and Stories - non-fiction (not part of the bitter memories series)
Is a book that came from low points in my life while searching for inner peace. It seems I can’t write poetry unless depressed, but these poems are more thoughtful, not depressing. They are actual feelings from these times with short stories about what inspired each poem. Truly written “from the heart” I expose feelings never shared with another person until this book. Also in audiobook, and to listen as my written words are spoken by Beth MacEwan who narrated is totally awesome! For a breathtaking experience grab a copy of the audio version today.

By Sue Julsen

Native American and European cultures share a method of story telling that is not readily apparent to the casual modern person. Just telling a story, 'just the facts maam', is what we've grown used to because of the hectic pace of life we drive today. It's delightful and relaxing to the mind to receive information in the way Sue delivers it here, a biography interspersed with the poetry she wrote for those occasions. Our ancestors typically did this with songs.
This is the way humans should share stories. Though the overall tale is one of abuse, abandonment, addiction and moving beyond those issues I was not overly weighed down after completing it. Excellent work.

Next in the Bitter Memories Series (currently being written):
After Midnight, Book 4 - memoir

Will continue parts left out from the other books in the series. I expect, like the other three books, this one will also take on a life of its own before finished as I delve more into my life after leaving home, my involvement with my mother’s alcoholic sister and, what all my fans have been waiting for—I tell about my big brother!
This story is coming later this year, with a (surprise) BONUS! There will be two short stories added to the back of the book. One is non-fiction, the other is a fantasy!
