Multiple personalities take over Sarah's mind...only so they can protect her.
Abducted by her father when she was three years old, Sarah found herself in a world of criminal neglect and unfathomable oppression as her father, stepmother and many others perpetrated more and more horrible acts of verbal, mental and sexual abuse on the innocent girl.
Sarah, so continually terrified, began to form separate personalities so that she herself did not have to face the hideous reality of her day to day life. In nightmares, the other personalities would present to her the horrific abuse she was being subjected to, blocking out time for Sarah, bearing the horror of the experiences themselves so their dear Sarah would not have to.
Although the names in this unforgettable story have been changed from those in real life, the horrors that occurred are factual. This tale of the author's early life is a true and unnervingly gripping account of the extremes of neglect and mistreatment a child can undergo-and still survive.
Told from the heart, "Bitter Memories" is dedicated to all survivors of abuse; written in the hope that exposing these horrors will help prevent them from happening to others, and that more survivors will find a path toward healing.
Contains adult language and graphic content.

My Fight to Survive
Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival, Book 1, is the true story of my life after being kidnapped by my father. I was only 3 years old, now living a life on the run, hungry, abused and terrified. For 6 years it was a daily struggle just to stay alive...
NOTE: BITTER MEMORIES CONTAINS ADULT LANGUAGE AND GRAPHIC CONTENT.
Trophy Murders, Book 2, continues my story after going to live with Uncle Henry (a cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life I wouldn’t wish on any kid. Trophy Murders, part fiction, part creative non-fiction, includes an action-packed crime story about a gang of serial killers as my uncle tries to bring solace back to our small little town.
Cutter's Revenge, Book 3, continues the story after my adoption, but in this book, my ruthless serial killer delivers an exciting, suspenseful story to keep you sitting on the edge of the chair.
I'm currently proofing the 4th in this series that will be out later this year!

Characters From Years Ago Lives Again...
THE BOOKS:
Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival is the book that started it all. Written novel-style for easy reading, this is a true story of a little girl (me) kidnapped by her father, then living a life on the run, hungry, abused and terrified...
There is no way to “sugarcoat” child abuse, therefore be prepared for adult language to put a sailor to shame, and explicit content.
Other books in this series — creative non-fiction/crime fiction:
Trophy Murders, Book 2 is not only an action-packed fictional crime story, but I take you deeper into the journey of true events after going to live with Uncle Henry (a cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life I wouldn’t wish on any kid!
Cutter's Revenge, Book 3 continues my story after my adoption, mixing truth with fiction. Anyone who’s read the other two books will know what’s true and what isn’t in this story. While another fictionalized serial killer stalks our little town, I write my story the way it could have been if...turning tragedy into a fantastic, exciting read, Cutter’s Revenge is unrelentingly suspenseful.
I’m currently proofing the 4th in this series that will be out later this year).
From The Heart is a collection of fifteen poems written from events in my life, including short stories that inspired the writing of each poem. This book is also available in audio with Beth MacEwan narrating. Beth did an amazing job bringing life to each poem and story. The audio version is totally awesome!
My newest book: The Rose: A Tale of Fantasy is the first in this series introducing Hollymae, a girl who believes she'll eventually rule the City of Dar. But when her brother is born, she has doubts. She hates her brother more and more each day as his hair color begins to change. Still, being the oldest, Hollymae holds on to her dream.
On her father's death bed she learns her brother will be the new King because he possesses the golden hair of wisdom like their father.
Her father talks to Hollymae about the gift only she has. A special gift that gives her another purpose in life. He tells her she can't rule Dar, because she is to become Queen of the Beasts.
Hollymae doesn't know the full strength of her powers, or the many powers that hasn't even surfaced yet, but with her faithful companions beside her, she begins her quest.
The Rose is a very special book for me because I used many of the same names from the sci-fi I started writing as a kid. The same sci-fi my aunt found hidden in my closet, called it garbage, a waste of time and paper, and then tore it up in front of me. She didn’t bother to read it! But, here, using their names, those special characters live again!

April is Awareness Month
Did you know April is child abuse awareness month? This month is an important month for all abuse survivors. This is an excellent opportunity to help inform people of this epidemic...
Yes, I said epidemic! Child abuse happens daily, and not to just one or two children. Hundreds of innocent children are abused on a daily basis! Sweeping this epidemic under the carpet does not make it go away. Pretending child abuse doesn't happen, does not make it go away.
The majority of children who have been abused do not talk about what happened. They are afraid, and they have been brainwashed. An abuser will say and do anything to keep his/her victim/s quiet...the list of things said goes on and on, but it's all lies!
Children who have been abused live a life of fear. They feel worthless. They feel they do not deserve any better than what they have - they believe the abuse is (or was) their fault. Truth is, the abuser is one who is worthless! The abuser would go away for a very long time should their acts of abuse be discovered and reported.
My book, Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival tells about my abuse that started when I was three years old after being kidnapped by my father. Daddy abused me in so many ways, but he also allowed others to abuse me. Daddy, among other things, was also bigamist. The woman he illegally married abused me, but she also sold me to her male friends for a bottle of booze and twenty bucks.
The abuse I lived through was extreme, but it doesn't take extreme to mess up a kid's head. Like many other survivors, I tried to take my own life several times. Luckily, I failed. But, this also gave me just another feeling of "failure" - I couldn't even do that right!
Victims of child abuse need your help! They need to be able to talk about their abuse and not be condemned by society's views. They need people to care! They need people to understand, and to love them for who they are -- innocent victims who deserves only the best in life!
My book Bitter Memories has helped many survivors find one thing they never had...they find HOPE! They find out they are not alone, there are people just like them who do understand. They find out their lives are worth living, but they also learn there's a path toward healing.
I receive emails almost daily from survivors who found my book, read it, and learned from my story. They write to thank me for being "brave" to tell my story, and for helping them. But, I'm not "brave" at all. I had to write about my life because I still hurt inside. The pain was so intense, I shut down for years. It wasn't until I wrote Bitter Memories that I found a path to healing my own scars of abuse.
I published my story in order to help other survivors, and from the emails I receive, I know I have. I've also made many new friends on this journey. Good friends who I cherish and am so thankful for the opportunity to know. These friends are the true brave ones! They took a chance on reading a book, my book, searching for answers, and in doing so, they found their voice. They can now stand up and say: "I am a SURVIVOR of child abuse"...
Just to have the courage, after so many hurtful years, to say those words brings a feeling that is so wonderful. It's like an enormous weight has been lifted, a weight that can no longer bring them down or hurt them ever again.
After Bitter Memories, I wrote two more books that continue my story. Trophy Murders, Book 2, takes you through my life after my mother dies and I go to live with her brother and his heavy-handed wife, a woman determined to "beat the meanness" out of me.
Cutter's Revenge, Book 3, is more fiction than truth, but it continues the story after my adoption. I write parts of this story the way I "wished" it could have been, but anyone who's read the other books will know what's true and what's pure fiction.
In both of these books I allowed my imagination to run free, giving my uncle, the cop, sadistic serial killers to catch and bring to justice. Trophy Murders and Cutter's Revenge brings excitement and terror throughout for a thrilling read.
Book 4 is being written now and it will complete the series. In this book I tell about my brother, and other areas of my life that I didn't even touch on in the first three books. This book will be available later this year.
To learn about other books I've written, please visit my website. And, of course, I love hearing from my readers, so don't hesitate to go to the contact page and send me a message.

In closing, this is a quote from my friend Annie O'Sullivan's blog. She says, "I dream and pray that there will come a day when we shine the light of the universe in all the dark places and children can be taught to talk freely about what is happening to them. They won't have secrets to keep, lives to hide, and broken hearts to mend. Maybe someday we wont have pin wheel gardens in the month of April. Maybe... Let it begin with me and with you..." Annie
Thank you, Annie. I couldn't agree more!

Bitter Memories, the Series - A Change is Coming
Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival (non-fiction) is written for easy reading, as I tell the story of my life after being kidnapped by my father, then living a life on the run, hungry, abused and terrified ...so terrified that I split into multiple personalities … a truly unforgettable, unnerving story of extreme child abuse and my fight to survive…
NOTE: Bitter Memories is NOT a cozy, feel-good book. It is a true story of extreme child abuse and my struggle to survive. It contains adult language and graphic content, however, it was my life. There is no way to sugarcoat child abuse, and to write my story any other way would have turned truth into fiction. Something I was not willing to do.
Trophy Murders (creative non-fiction/crime fiction) will be rewritten soon! The story as it stands mixes truth with fiction, adding an action-packed crime story as I take you further on the journey of true events after going to live with Uncle Henry (the cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life I wouldn’t wish on any kid … Problems at school, continued nightmares from my past, and a narrow-minded, bigoted Olivia, brings me to a dangerous low in my life … After a gang moves into the house on the hill and a murdering spree begins, Police Chief Henry Frye (my uncle) is asking himself how many must die before he catches the ones responsible for turning our quiet, peaceful town into a place of terror … Still trying to hide his own secrets and lies, Uncle Henry is afraid if I find out the truth it will destroy me ...
Cutter's Revenge(psychological thriller/crime fiction) may also be rewritten. As of now, the story mixes about five percent truth with fiction, however, anyone who’s read th will know truth from fiction instantly. Using many of the same characters, I introduce new characters — many you’ll love, some you’ll love to hate. While another serial killer, maybe more ruthless than the gang of killers, stalks our little town, I continue my story after my adoption, leaning more toward the way my life could have been IF .… a great fictional story that turns tragedy into a fantastic and exciting read complete with happy ending!
The purpose of the rewrite will be to extract the truth from Trophy Murders and Cutter's Revenge, then combine these true parts with the non-fiction sequel I'm working on now.
Some will like this change -- other's will not. But, I feel it will be better for everyone who likes non-fiction with no hype mixed in.
Stay tuned for updates.

More: Changes Coming to the Series
The books that are currently available are:
Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival: The true story of my life after being kidnapped by my father, then for six years living a life of hell while on the run, hungry, abused and terrified...so terrified that I split into multiple personalities in order to survive...The language is raw, the content is graphic, because there is no way to sugarcoat child abuse.
(paperback & e-book now; audio coming)
Trophy Murders: Part creative non-fiction; part crime fiction.
The true parts continue my story after going to live with Uncle Henry (the cop) and his heavy-handed wife, Olivia. A life, by the way, I wouldn’t wish on any kid!
The fictional parts delve into my vivid imagination to deliver an action-packed crime story about a gang of serial killers that my uncle has to catch and bring to justice.
(e-book now; paperback & audio coming)
Cutter’s Revenge: I wrote this story for my fans, giving them a "pound of revenge" for all the feelings invoked while reading Bitter Memories, turning tragedy into a fantastic, exciting read. This book was fun to write while providing me the perfect opportunity to get my own revenge against a few who made my life hell. With enough suspense to get the heart racing, my imagination runs as rampant as the stalking killer who brings terror around every turn!
For your own "pound of revenge," enter Cutter’s Sadistic World...
(e-book now; paperback & audio coming)
The Rose: A Tale of Fantasy introduces Hollymae, a girl who believes she'll eventually rule the City of Dar, but on her father's death bed she learns her brother will be the new King...Her father explains that her "special gift" gives her another purpose in life. She can't rule Dar because she is to become Queen of the Beasts.
In the first of this series, Hollymae doesn't know the full strength of her powers, or the many powers that hasn't even surfaced yet, but with her faithful companions beside her, she begins her quest.
(e-book now; audio coming)
From The Heart: A Collection of Poems and Stories, is a book written from low points in my life while searching for peace. Exposing feelings never shared before, I include short stories about what inspired each poem. Truly written “from the heart,” this book, also available in audio, is totally non-fiction.
To hear my written words spoken by Beth MacEwan who narrated is totally awesome! I highly recommend the audio for a breathtaking experience.
(e-book; audio)
WHAT WILL STAY THE SAME:
Bitter Memories and Cutter's Revenge will not be changed.
THE CHANGES THAT ARE COMING:
1)Trophy Murders will have a new cover and will be rewritten, changing this story to fiction only.
2)The truth from Trophy Murders will be included in what originally was to be book 4 in the series.
3)There will not be a forth in the Bitter Memories series!
4)The new book will be the new sequel, with Cutter's Revenge remaining the third, for anyone who wants to read how it "could have been...if..."
5)The new book will be in two parts, with a bonus story (also non-fiction) added at the end.
6)Title for part one, undecided.
7)Part Two, titled After Midnight, I delve into my life after leaving home, my involvement with my mother’s alcoholic sister and, what everyone has been waiting for — my big brother — who I touched on briefly in Bitter Memories.
This story is coming!

REPLAY AVAILABLE AFTER THE SHOW.
Wednesday, 4/24/13, special guest is Sue Julsen from Nevada, a survivor and thriver and author of the bestselling “Bitter Memories” series.
Largely, autobiographical, Ms Julsen chose to use fictional names to protect the innocent, and the guilty, from those in real life.
Abducted by her father when she was three, the book's main character, Sarah, found herself in a world of criminal neglect and unfathomable oppression as her father, stepmother and many others perpetrated more and more horrible acts of verbal, mental and sexual abuse on the innocent girl.
Continually terrified, Sarah formed separate personalities in order to survive. In nightmares, the other personalities would show Sarah the horrific abuse she was being subjected to in her day to day life.
This story of the author's early life – a life on the run, hungry, abused, and terrified – is a truly unnerving and gripping account of the extremes of neglect and mistreatment a child can undergo, and still survive.
“Bitter Memories,” written with the hope that exposing these horrors will help prevent them from happening to others, is dedicated to all survivors of abuse.
“Trophy Murders” is the second in the series, part fiction/part non-fiction, but Sue is currently working on a new and improved second for this series that will be all non-fiction. It will be out later, 2013.
“Cutter's Revenge” completes her story.

News + What I've Been Up To Lately
The book that started me on this path is Bitter Memories: A Memoir of Heartache & Survival. Below is the back cover copy for the paperback with Taylor Street. Although we used my real name here, in the series my name is still Sarah.
When Sue Julsen was two, her father attempted to run away with her but was stopped before he reached the city limits. A year later Sue was not so lucky. Her father had spent that intervening year biding his time, lulling the family into a false sense of security, so that when he abducted Sue again he would get clean away. And he did.
It turned out to be, for Sue, the start of a six year road trip from hell during which she was subjected to unremitting exploitation, starvation and abuse so severe that she constantly had to disassociate herself mentally from it to survive.
And beyond the overwhelming heartbreak and terror, there was a nagging question. Sue’s father would regularly hook up with waitresses in diners and they would stay a few days with them. But why then, each time, did he end up trashing the place and refusing to let Sue say goodbye to them. Were these waitresses really sleeping, as he would insist, or was something more sinister happening?
Disclaimer:
The names in this account have been changed to protect the innocent and the guilty, as has the locale, but the events described in ‘Bitter Memories’ did indeed take place as best Sue Julsen can remember them as a very small child hurled into a maelstrom no child should ever have to face.
What I've Been Up To Lately
I am currently working on a "new" second in the series that will be true events, titled Drowning In Memories that continues my story after Bitter Memories, filling in a lot that was left out before. This book will be out later this year.
NOTE: Trophy Murders and Cutter's Revenge are the current books in the Bitter Memories series, written part fiction/part truth. Cutter's story turns a tragedy into the way I wanted my life to be, and is an exciting read!
